Default Back on the Farm Again

I am still trying to get this Renegade ready for the June/July Rondy shoots, so we headed to the farm again.

It was actually one of the nicer days for shooting at the farm - really hardly any wind at all, but my days of shooting rifles @ the farm may be getting limited for awhile, the winter wheat is really starting to grow and Tom pobably does not want me walking trails out into the crop.

I think I am about 90% set for shooting PRB's with this Renegade. I shot at various ranges yesterday. Learning where to set the Lyman Peep Sight for each range. For those of you that are not familiar with a Lyman it has a quick release button that allows you to quickly move the peep up and down in elevation which you can tune to your particular load.

This is not an especially good target but it really shows some promise + when I collected patches from this shoot - they were all GOOD - finally...

I never played with one of them Lyman Peep sights. I was always going to get one and throw that on a White, but I went with 1x scopes instead. Also I had a T/C peep sight on a Renegade. That T/C peep worked real good.

I still think you need more juice under them balls.

I like the peep sights, I have had and use Lyman,TC and williams and they all were very good. The only thing is the newer people need to look at the different styles and intended purpose of them before buying.
So are you going to tell us what it took to keep the patches in good shape?

You are starting to sound like Semi and his personal cooments about his balls...

OK so I am shooting 60 T7-3f which should be somewhere equal to 75 grains of GOEX - 3f, Do you think 70 grains of T7-3f would make enough difference? Remember I am shooting targets not animals...

I am pretty sure the cotton patches will hold up to 70 grains. At 60 they really look good almost like I could use them again, but I am sure the wad under the patch helps insulate also.

Lee

The difference being the switch from pillow ticking to all cotton patches. I could not get pillow ticking to stand up to heat of T7, with real BP they work well. A week or so ago I dis some shooting @ the farm, and I could not find a pilloe tick patch - could find bits and pieces here and there but not a single patch. Yesterday I found everyone of the cotton patches....

OK - so next week I will go out and try shooting both 60 and 70 grains of T7-3f without a wad and see what happens to the patches. If the patches survive then i will try 70 grain loads with and without a wad I would rather shoot that 70 without a wad.

I really do not know. I shoot one .54 caliber with 80 grains of Triple Seven 2f and a wad, then patch and ball. Excellent accuracy. Without the wad, the patch is toast.

T7-2f should be some what cooler than 3f. I shoot the 3f because Wal-mart keeps giving me such a great supply of it at the end of each year. And I have found that when hunting in really cold weather with a sidelock and #11 ignition it ignites a lot easier that 2f, hence I bought a lot of 3f. I was using 2f at the last Rondy in Benton City but I was shooting a pillow tick without the under wad... my results over there were terrible. I did not know I was destroying the patchg then.

Still trying to learn things when it comes to PRB's - I even almost went to some Jim Shockey Gold 3f the other day. I am sure it would shoot without bunrning up patches.

I really like JSG, the only thing about it is it never goes on sale.

That's good shooting Sabotloader. I have an awful time getting under three-inches like thatat 75 yards with iron sights.
