Default Rifling twist

Many muzzeloaders today have the rate of twist marked on the barrel but many do not. Here is a quick way to check the rate of twist.

With a cleaning jag attached to the ramrod start a patch into the muzzle and stop as close to the muzzle as possible. Tape a business card to the ramrod as high as possible. note the position of the card and push the patched ramrod down the bore untill the card rotates 180 degrees and stop. mark the ramrod at the muzzle. withdraw the ramrod and measure the from the cleaning jag to the mark and multiply by 2 for the rate of twist.
