North Carolinians gain an extra week of muzzleloader season for 2009! -although the bowhunters lost one.

I have to disagree with you.Yes ML did pick up an extra week, but the bow hunters picked up 16 extra hunting days as they(Bowhunters/Crybabies) can now hunt on Sunday.I am a Bowhunter myself, but not one of the NC Bowhunter Ass.They cried, pissed and moaned because they lost a week to ML and NC is now going to allow crossbows, cry some more.So giving the Bowhunters Sundays to hunt was kind of a payback IMO.We have plenty of deer in NC right now, enough for all types of hunters but it seems as if the NC Bowhunters Ass. wants everything their way and has no respect for anyone who shoots a gun or crossbow.

153. . .

Yes, the bowhunters did pick up some extra time - Sundays on PRIVATE LAND ONLY . . . hunting on federal reserves and game lands is still prohibited on Sundays for everyone, regardless of weapon.

I saw the part about the crossbows - not sure how I feel about that. In the past crossbows were only allowed for disabled hunters with the proper permit.

Why no Sunday hunting in NC? Its one of those Southern "blue laws", a law whose reasons are somewhat obscure. Most of the opposition to lifting the ban is religious in nature. The following link does a pretty good job at listing the "current" reasons to keep it in place:

http://www.mccleesconsulting.com/sunday_hunting_in_north_carolina.htm

Here is another interesting link on the subject:

http://www.nctws.org/pdf_docs/sunhunt.pdf

On the other side:

This one is a commentary out of Connecticut, but pretty much mirrors the thoughts here in NC for lifting the ban-

http://www.ctsportsmen.com/timeSunHunt.htm

Now this one is kinda funny (read the comments):

http://www2.journalnow.com/content/2009/feb/13/no-to-sunday-hunting/opinion/

Regardless of what side of the fence one stands, the reasons for or against Sunday hunting follow the same basic thought processes. Would I hunt on Sundays if allowed? Yes . . . unless there is a NASCAR race that afternoon

Here in N.Y. we can Gun and Bow Hunt on Sundays. But new for this year there giving the ML Hunters a (Early Season) Starting in the Middle of September there going to let ML Hunters shoot Doe's Only. They say the Deer Herd will Calm back down by the Opening of Archery Season. October 15th. But we dont like the idea of the early ML Season, we think all the Big Bucks will go Nocturnal and our Archery Season will be a Bust. Also there thinking of letting Crossbows be legal for Archery Season, another thing we Dont Like. We dont mind the use of Crossbows as long as your (Handicapped) but if your not you should'nt be able to hunt with them.
Archery is a learned sport, it takes time to become an accomplished Archer, being able to use a Crossbow takes little practice if any, and then those that do use them will think there Archers and just fire away at Deer, and Im sure the wounding rate will increase a-lot. We like our Season's the way they are. We have a month of Archery Season, a month of Gun Season and 9 days of Late ML Season, and we can hunt Sundays all through all seasons. We dont want an early ML Season, no Crossbows and No Rifle's durning Shotgun Season. But Im afraid things will go the Way Governer Patterson Wants, he just wants more Cash Revenue for N.Y.
Also they say the Early ML Season will help those that dont like the Cold Weather, too bad! Just My and Many other N.Y. Hunter Opinions. BP

Ohio DNR is trying to move MZ season here in Ohio to the middle of Jan. Saying that the harvest is declining. It's been the weekend after Christmas for many years-a 4 day season...I've got no interest in hunting mid January... I bet they have at least 25% less harvest this way... DUMB...

Breechplug.I have to disagree with you.Takes a while to set up a crossbow correctly, same as with a compound bow.You need to know your range as crossbows shot about the same speed as compound bows. Why should bow hunters have the early season every year? Why not rotate between gun,ML and bow season. Why not have a early season for real bows, not compound bows, with wooden arrows and flint broadheads.I have tracked more deer for friends that were shot with bows that are never found.I think bow huntingshould be outlawed because bowhunters cripple to many deer.I am glad for once a state lets someone other than the bowhunters have the first season.
FYI.I hunt with bow,ML,shotgun and rifle.I just get sick of some bowhunters and how they think they should always get two months to hunt before anyone else.
