Default 45 cal. 1:18 twist barrel for Hawken

I put an ad in the classified section.I want to find a Green Mountain barrel 45 cal 1:18 twist 15/16ths for my T/C Hawken so it will shoot long heavy conicals. I would like to try it and see how it does at long range target shooting as well as hunting. If you knows anyone that has one I would like to know how they perform.
If anyone has one for sell tell them to contact me. thanks . My Pedersoli Gibbs deal fell through so I am looking at a Navy Arms C.S.Volunteer which is the same as the Whitworth except it has Henry rifling. In the mean time I thought this might be a good option also

isn't 1-18 basically a Sharps Rifle twist?

It sounds like a good idea, but I don't believe Green Mountain offers such a barrel. At one time they cataloged a .458 barrel an inch across the flats with a 1/20 twist for 45-70 rifles. One of these could be milled down to 15/16. One problem with this though would be getting a mould the correct size. Someone out there could probably make you a custom mould.

W.E. Rayl offers custom made barrels . He may be able to help you. His Phone# 304-364-8269

Yes i think so.. But most BP and BPC guns that I see for long range have a 1:18 twist , like the Pedersoli Gibbs for example. Some have a 1:20 but the concensus seems to be that a 1:18 is better for long range . I thought that Green Mountain made a 1:18 at one time. I know the bpc barrel they make for the 45/70 is a 1:18 I think a breech plug could be installed on it instead of a cartridge chamber couldn't it?

You may be corect in that Green Mt. .458 barrel is 1-18 twist, but yes, It could be drilled and tapped for a breach plug since the barrel blankis not chambered.

I have a Green Mountian 1-18 twist, but it is a 1" across the flats. GM made this limited run a couple of years ago. I don't think any 15/16 were made. They no longer produce this barrel, and I can't understand why. Mine is an amazing barrel. This gun has a Lee Shavers globe sight with a level. It also has a Lyman 57 SML peep sight and this rifle is sighted in out to 300 yards. This gun shoots a 386 gr Lee 459-405-HB bullet paper patched over 80 gr of Pyrodex P. I also shoot a 475 gr LymanWhitworth bullet that is also a very accurate bullet but the sight is too short to go to 300 yards.
I have seen a couple of these barrels for sale over the last year. I wish I would have bought 2 when I had the chance. Ron

Molds are available every day at LBT Molds for just such a project, Veral will cut any of his boolit molds with smooth sides beveled base to be used in Sabots.

I have no connection with LBT other than there molds that I own/paid for, drop the bestest of Boolitz of all my molds.
