Default velocity I can't get--among other things

It's time to go to the x-perts. Ihave seen/read/heard several examples of 1500+fps from a 50 cal.RB and so far I have not come close to this. Iam shooting a Lymans Great Plains--50 cal---CCI Mag#11's--Hornady .490--.015 patch and Am. Pioneer 2F. Being a true believer of shot placement vs. speed I don't need stupid fast but I want as fast as I can get and still punch the black at 75 yds+.I have chronographed 80, 90 and 100gr and have topped out just over 1200fps. This is with the chrono at the 25 yd burm to avoid the patch/smoke. Accuracy is a consistant 2" at 50 yds but opens up to 6+ at 75. !!???? This is with 90gr. 100gr is worse. I have many more ???'s but lets start here. Why the lack of velocity? The end result being a deer load out to at least 75yds. My old timey eyes can't see much past that anyway. Thank you in advance for any advice you can give.

First off, let me compliment you on a great gun. I have some 54 cal. Lymans. They are real shooters. The best way to increase your velocity is to switch powders. I used Shockey's Gold for a couple of years and it is the lowest velocity powder. This year I used Triple 7 . If you try either Pyrodex or triple 7 you will gain some velocity. Another thing as far as a deer load is to switch to a conical or ball-et. If yours a a 1:60 twist I have had good luck in stabilizing a maxi ball with 110 gr powder. It will dramatically increase your knock down power.
Then again at 75 yards the 50 cal round ball will do the job with 80 gr.of powder

I have never checked velocity at 25 yards but at 100 yards with 110 gr I get about 1200 fps. Mv is about 1800fps Hornady 530 prb .018 patch remington #11 cap. Your 50 cal should have a little more velocity than my 54.
I think Lyman recommends a maximum load of 90 gr on the 50 cal versus 120 gr for the 54 don't they?
You could switch to 3f instead of 2f. It will increase pressure, but with the faster burn rate it should boost velocity a little also. I am sure someone on here can help you achieve the results you are looking for. There are some great guys here. Also Welcome

The powder you are shooting may be the biggest problem. AP was never to robust, and it does not age that well.

I am shooting T7-3f in my Renegades and it works well for me. But other good choices especially in the world of real BP would be Swiss BP, then mabe GOEX 3f. A lot of people shoot the differerent pyros which will generate more velocity than the AP but I am not a fan of the Pyros...

Here is a target shot with just 60 grains of T7-3f - that is what I use for Rondy shoots... feels kinda like a 22 mag going off, but it works well for me at Rondy shoots. If I were hunting with i would bump that up. I did mis-label the patch size it was a .015 with theWonder Wad - the wad helps insulate the patch from the heat generated byT7.

Cayugad will jump on here sooner or later and he shoots a ton of PRB's

get some pyrodex rs and .018 pillow ticking. You'll have no more accuracy issues

Don't think I have ever heard of setting up a chronograph at 25 yds. I normally set up at 15 feet. If you're shooting a sabot, then set up for 25'. that may give you a better reading.

I have got to admit I havee never chrono'd my BP rounds for my different guns. Now you have me wondering. Sounds like another project for me,

The velocity problem is directly related to the powder, my recommendation would be Swiss Black, or GOEX FFF or Pyrodex try P if it blows the patch then try RS. 777 will work some times for some people but a lot have ignition problems with #11 caps.
The accuracy problem may well be a separate problem, you need to find and check your patches after you shoot, if they are blown to shreds as I suspect you need to go to a bigger ball or a thicker patch, may be even both, it is usually the most practical to try a thicker well lubed patch as the first step. If you wish to shoot hunting loads and still have excellent accuracy you may find using a 5 thousands larger ball will make a big difference. Lee

Your shooting the slowest powder available, the cleanest, yes but also the least powerful and also the one with the highest standard deviation shot to shot:

PS. Why you worring about speed at 50 and 75 yards? Ya got plenty, at 1200 fps. Accuracy is king. I would go with Pyrodex RS 80g and you should get 300+ more fps.
