I use the gun oil on the outside of the rifle when I wipe it down. And in the trigger, etc. The bore is only protected with the Bore Conditioner. Don at Western said that is all I needed.

Chetmarks, did you use the cowboy solvent? I think that is what took all the black stuff out of Dave's big bore barrel>

No. I used Butch's bore shine solvent. I almost bought the cowboy solvent but since I have 3 bottles of Butch's black powder solvent and 1 large bottle of Butch's bore shine solvent, along with casey's Hoppes . etc. I didn't get it. Maybe I should have but it seems like my shelves have more than the average gun shop when it comes to cleaning supplies. LOL I will have to see how they shoot now. I treated the Triumph,Lyman Great Plains Hunter, and Kodiak pro with the Montana extreme. Time will tell. I'm always open to anything that helps accuracy ( like my tri-focals )and protects the bore.

i took HOPPES BORE CLEANER 1 night and i put it on heavy in bore.

this was after i had bore real clean.

next day i wet another patch with hoppes and pushed it in bore.

i was shocked to see gray color come out on white patch.
