Default This can't be right...

I am attempting to make my own ramrod, it will be a replacement fiberglass rod for a wood rod that broke.

So I would know what size blank to order I took a length of dental floss and wrapped it around the broken rod to get the circumference.

It measured at: 18/16ths or 1 2/16ths. Does that sound right? I measured it a couple of times and kept coming back with a length pretty close to that. I don't see anything near that size on Dixie.

Thanks,
~Robert

I do think that you have some very accurate measurements of circumference, but unfortunately they are somewhat useless before you convert them to the DIAMETER of the rod needed. Most rods are sold by there diameter and not circumference.

Now a fiberglass rod will be very strong, but it will also be very ABRASIVE!!!!! It amazes me that there is talk here of people wanting fiberglass ram rods. If you doubt that they are abrasive just take your fiberglass rod to a piece of barrel that is hidden by the stock, use it like it is a file and you will quickly notice that it will cut a grove. So every time you load the gun you are effectively filing the muzzle /crown out of round if it slides down the side of the barrel. I thought this was old school common knowledge.

Robert - 1.125 circumference (1 1/8");
Remember your math C=2(pi)r. A little algebraic manipulation; C/pi = 2r or C/pi = D
So 1.125/3.14 = .358"
I would be willing to bet that a standard 3/8" ramrod will fit you gun. Why not take it to your gun shop to try a stock universal ramrod?

Is this the Pedersoli fowler? You should have just ordered one from the links I gave you.

.358 as Bronko said, and I don't think a 3/8 will work in that piece.
