Default First outing with the white

Really had to get out and do some shooting today.
I got this white G-series about two weeks ago and haven't had a chance to try it out yet.
First couple alcohol patches then dry patch and a couple primers and ready to go.

I should say first I had to clean some snow away.

I was going to try some maxi-balls but they almost fell down the barrel (didn't get to slug the barrel yet), so I went for some Great-plains 385. A little rap to get them started and they loaded with reasonable force. I just put the scope on with some cheap weaver rings, I want to see if they will come back to zero if I tighten them the same when I put them back on.A little electrical tape under the scope for protection.

First shot was at 20 yds. (the one on the right) just to see if I was on paper,
Next one was at 56 yds. still high so I made another scope adjustment and shot for a group.
First three are touching should have stopped [:@] after that I was not getting quite down to the wittness mark on the ramrod. And shot the last two.

Almost forgot, that was 70 gr. pyrodex P and rws caps.

I cleaned with some 409 but I think a hot, soapy water bath would be easier, cause they do get a little dirty with pyro.

Pretty pleased with the first outing. NICE TRIGGER ON THE RIFLE TOO !!!!

LOOKS LIKE IT MUST HAVE BEEN THE DAY FOR THE WHITES TO BE OUT (GOOD SHOOTING DAVE)

BOY I WISH I COULD TYPE FASTER

You really need some slip fit conicals. Then you will know the joy of shooting a White. Also if they start to get hard to load, you need to swab the bore. My Whites like Pyrodex P.

BullShop makes a great conical. I like the 460 and 500 grain. That's a good size for planting things. For a first outing, it looks like you are doing well with the White. Nice shooting there. Nice scope too. You might want to make a bikini out of some duct tape to put around that scope. It will keep the fowling off it and make it easier to clean.

I need to slug the bore ( I never did before but I think I know how ) Wooden dowels with a round ball between the dowels half way down the bore and pound it till it expands then push it out and measure it ?? I probably will order an assortment of the Bullshop conicals.

bronko, I didn't buy the GPR from Nimrodder, I requested pictures but some people on MM wanted pictures also. I think somebody over there bought it. Sounded like a good deal !!

If this is any help.. my Bison is a G series rifle. I have Bull Shop conicals in .504 (according to the box specifications) but they are too tight. I put them through a .504 sizer and they are now perfect in my Bison. I just threw them on my caliper and they are .504 so maybe I got some that were a little bigger or my caliper is off...

dphobbie: Nice shooting

Had you pusher your snow up into a pile behind your targets you would have been able to pick up all you boolitz in the spring when the snow melted. The snow back stops would also protect all them trees, and would allow you to see if you had any gas cutting and gives you the lead to recast into other boolitz. 6' of plowed up snow will stop any bullet without doing damage to it, It will even stop any of the boolitz I fire from a pair of 50bmgs. If you doubt me that snow will stop them just put a target on your side snow piles and look there in the spring, or just fire your biggest baddest boolit into it and check for an exit hole.

Those "cheap" weaver rings have never given me a problem with repeat zero, I often remove them and reinstall. I carry a 1/2" washer in my possibility bag that I have ground to fit the rings thumb nut for removing and reinstalling while hunting.

I never would have thunk it, Snow stopping a slug, I'll have to try that.

I do have a pile of ground behind the 100 yd. target. Those black walnut trees were collecting some led.

Dave,, thanx for the info !!!

Looks like you got a real shooter there. Try some plain ole TC maxie's in 370gr. My white shoots them very well. I wish I could find me another White. Mine came with a bold trigger fully adjustable, it aint a bad trigger. Whats the not for resale that's stamped on your gun? Never seen that before.

I'vr got same 320 maxi-balls and they are too loose, just about fall down the barrel. I checked them and they are only .5025 to .5035.

This was a 'Demo' gun on the rack and in storage for 10-15 years, I guess that is the reason for the
'not for sale' on the barrel
