The Casual runs the bullet out the barrel with much more umph!

Think: .44 Spl/.44 Magnum, .38 Spl./ .357 Magnum

.454 Brass is a little longer (so you cannot chamber the Casull in a .45 Colt). And the Casull revolver is a LOT stronger gun than a .45 Colt. Similar bore diameter, but a very different cartridge.

Thanks for the replies guys, but I guess I should correct my question. If I want to use the pistol bullets for muzzleloading I have read some say you need to get ones for a Colt .45 others say .454 Casull. Just wanted to know why some people say different things. Is it just because some manufactures don't make bullets for both?

Bullets very similar either .451 or .452" depending on brand. Hornady loads the Casul with XTP mag 250gr or 300gr both .452" I shoot a Nosler 45 Colt 250gr .451" Either bullet will work for MZ.

Ah!!!! understand now...

The 45 Long Colt has a 250 grain bullet for it's heaviest suggested bullet. I use the Speer Gold Dot .452/250 grain for hunting deer. This bullet is bonded and completely adequate for deer. My max range 90% of the time for a deer in the terrain that I hunt is 150/75 yards. The bullet is/can be very fast and it will expand in a thin skinned deer from 10 yard to 200 yards.

The 454 Casual bullet is a .452/300 grain bullet, I would use this bullet for elk or for ranges greater than 175. It (Speer Gold Dot) has a very high BC for hp (essentially flat point) bullet. It retains more energy at the longer ranges than does the 250.

Either bullet is excellent for deer - i am just partial to velocity.

Thanks again, in reading here or on MM site, someone said Nosler has bullets similar to the Gold Dots, maybe a touch better but alot more money right. Doug

The Nosler Partition is the better all around bullet, but it is really expensive, but I do see the prices comming down lately.

I shoot both the Nosler .451/260 grain for deer hunting and the .458/300 grain for elk hunting.

If it come to the the point that the Noslers get to expensive for me to continue to use I will go with the Gold Dots.

I have shot hundreds of Gold Dots while practicing - can not afford to shoot Noslers and I have ran them through my own un-scientific torture test... I have often made the comparison that the Gold Dots are a poorman's Nosler.

Here is a pic of some expanded Gold Dots... did the same test with XTP's and some of them came apart - separated the copper from the lead...

I was shooting 250SST with SB sabot and had very good accuracy and did get a doe this year, but after reading some post on lost deer and I think one of yours about closer range shots I was thinking of switching to something else I have some 250 Gold Dots and considered some .452 250 XTP's also some .451 250 Barnes X Bullets, the .451 260 Nosler Partitions maybe even a 245 Barnes Spitfire. Too many choices I don't see many post about Sierra bullets, is there a reason why. I have Harvester SB, Hornady Low Drag, Crush Ribs and whatever comes with the 250 SST the black ones (HPH12 or HPH24?) to try with each. Any thoughts on the above bullets.
