Sproul - I never worried too much about my brass. I usually blacken it. But maybe you can get a buffing attachment for your drill or grinder and some jewelers rouge or J-B compound and buff it out.

In some of the brass work I have done in the past, I've always used a sucession of fine grit sandpaper, progressing down to 600 grit. Then finish it off with 0000 steel wool. I've heard some will go even further with something call Flitz (sp?) but I've never used it.

i found a buffing compound at lowes today in tube, it comes in 4 grits.

i got the HIGH GLOSS ONE.

i used a old cotton shirt and it put scratchs in brass.

so, i tried a different cloth, one with those little nubbs on ,like a beach blanket.

guess what was putting scratchs in my brass,

THE OLD T SHIRT.
'
there must be something to a cotton t shirt that causes scratchs.

i used that towel material with that gloss buffing stuff and my brass looks new and is very bright.

IT WAS T SHIRT OR COTTON MATERIAL.

you have to use a different cloth or it will cause swirls on brass.

i cant believe cotton would do this.
