Was surprised to see my brother come walking into the house with a package for me. It turned out to be the barrel i ordered from deer creek! After running a handful of patches down the bore i got all the packing grease out and the rifling is very smooth inside. I was unaware that the barrel didnt come with underlugs, sights and the under rib but thats no biggie. I planned on using some custom sights that aim well with my eyes.
Lock, tang, lock screws and trigger guard also came in and i got them cleaned up and working properly. I will get some pics later on with what i have so far.
Still have a lot of work to do, but i plan on taking my sweet time and doing it right. Tonight i may block sand the barrel with 150grit sand paper and then add some LFM Browning solution to it.
Also going to order a new trigger guard from TOTW that will drop right in. It uses a smaller scale design thats sleek.
Almost forgot, The guy i bought the lock, triggers and other parts off threw in a good deal of extra parts and that included a bigger hammer from what looks to be from a CVA Hawken. I stripped the bluing off and mounted it on my other mountain rifle. Now it looks normal! I hate the tiny hammers they originally came with.
I still have to hit it with a couple more coats of blue remover and then i will dip it in bleach and let the hammer pit up a little.
You're going to love that .58. The only .58 I have is my Zouave, but until I got the GP flintlock it was at thetop of my "fun gun" list.

Nice looking big one. What do you plan on shooting in it?
.570" round ball. As soon as i buy a mold for it. This one has a 1:70 twist.
Got the barrel in the bathroom right now, letting it steam up and get humid so the first coat of LMF will take to it. After that, its one coat per day for a week. I only do the humid room for the first coat.
