Default Drilling out the breech plug?

Is this pretty common practice. Logic would tell me that you would get better ignition if the diameter of the channel from the primer to the powder was larger. Is this the case or not? If so, how big is too big?

I have read in other forums it might not be a good idea to drill a larger hole. I would be afraid of a voiding the warranty.

The use of a drill most talked about here is for cleaning the carbon out that is found between the 209 seat and the touch hole drilling out the touch hole is a bad idea as far as I known we usually have to change breach plugs if it burns out to much as it causes accuracy to go down hill fast and if you drilled it out the blow back could get dangerous. I agree, leave it alone or simply buy a new one...

I've been shooting flintllocks since the 70s and I can tell you that too large of a hole affects accuracy and velocity from shot to shot...

It may even be that a smaller hole concentrates the flame and gives better ignition...

Theholeof my old Stag Horn breech plug enlarged afer what was probably over 1,000 rounds. Accuracy went bad. There was an awful lot of crud in the breech after firing and the fired primers were hard to remove.A new plug changed all that.
