Default Question?

I'm trying to get into ML hunting and was offered a two year old TC Black Diamond for $150. Is this a good deal and a good gun for a beginner?

If my memory serves me correctI think that gun sold new for around three hundred dollars. If the rifle is in good condition thats not a bad price.

The Black Diamond is a good rifle. It is accurate, easy to operate, and take care of. It's also backed by Thompson Center and was at one time, their top of the line rifle. BUT it is a devil for fowling. With the open breech design, if you have a scope, but a bikini on it. Also check that breech plug after ten shots or so on the range and make sure it is not seizing up.

They take longer to clean then some of the modern rifles, but are easy to shoot, well balanced, and will go off. They have a floating barrel actually. I have one. $150.00 might be fair, but it is used. I think the are selling on Natchez for $229.99 new. So if the rifle is in REAL GOOD SHAPE then that is in the ball park. People do pick them up cheaper then that on auction sites.. but ...

I hate to tell you that is a good price.

The Black diamond is a good gun but since the Omega came out and now the Triumph it is pretty much obsolete. They have one at the local hardware store that has been in stock for a long time. It is on clearance right now for $200.00. I keep talking myself out of getting it every time I go in there. I don't think i would pay 150 for a used one when you can find a new one for 200 or a little over. personally I would add a little money to it and get an Omega or Triumph instead.

Just like I responded in yourDUPLICATE post in the other section,it's a real good deal IF it's been cleaned/oiled and taken good care of.

I would like to see you get it a little cheaper myself... OR... see if he is willing to give you a "starter" kit. If you are new to ML and are on a budget then nickles and dimes will go out the window just buying all the stuff initially to get to where you can shoot the gun. Get the seller to throw in bullets/sabots, powder, ignition primers, cleaning patches, etc. get all you can get. THEN it would be a good deal in my opinion.

I have seen them locally in the Valley Trader for $100 to $150. Chap
