RE: Jim Shockey Gold pellets - Good, Bad, or Ugly?
What kind of rifle are you shooting? It will work in inline rifles with a 209 ignition. Some people have very good luck shooting American Pioneer/Shockey Gold powders. I found it tempermental at best. One day it works great and the next time out, all over the place. Is it any good??? All you can do it try it if you like. It is easy to clean, you don't have to swab if you don't want. But pack your sabot tight, and I would not shoot conicals with it.
I personally think if you're starting out, get some Pyrodex RS or Triple Se7en 2f loose powder and a volume powder measure. It will save you money, you can see just what your rifle likes. And down the road, after you have a good load worked up, then get some Shockey Gold and give it a try.

A Triumph is a great rifle. If BlackHorn 209 is legal in your state, try some of that. Or if you can not find the stuff at a reasonable cost, then get some Pyrodex RS or Triple Se7en. Start your loads at 100 grains of loose powder and say a 250 grain Shockwave and see how well a rifle can shoot.
Some of the Triumph owners were shooting BlackHorn 209 and I was amazed at the accuracy they were getting with that rifle and powder.

All the APP powders will draw moisture out of the air and it will affect the accuracy. I used it for a couple year one day it would shoot good and the humidity went up and you had to dry it out with a dehumidifier to get it to work decent again. it is also the weakest powder made. For a Triumph try some Blackhorn 209 it is the most consistent powder in production also the hottest by at least a couple hundred fps. It is more expensive than the rest except for pellets, but some of us like it so well we don't whine about it. Lee

Used JSG with good effect on several deer and a lot of hogs. Forget the pellets, they are too inconsistent. JSG likes a tight fitting sabot that is set really hard on the charge. i use a furniture knob or golf ball on the end of the ramrod and really lean on it: You can feel the powder compress.
IMO: JSG is notthat sensitive to moisture: Just keep the lid tight on the container. Left my gun loaded for days or a few weeks at a time and it always went bang when it was supposed too. If you decide to try JSG, get the 3F. JSGdoes not leave a crud ring like 777, the breech plug always comes out easily and cleanup is easy.
This year i tried Goex Pinnacle, liked it and now use itto the exclusion of all else.My best groups have been fired with Pinnacle 2F and 3F. Pinnacle 3F isas powerful as Pyrodex RS. Like JSG, the breech plug is easy to remove and the bore cleans up nicely with water.
Earlier this month i killed a small buck at a measured 136 yards using my CVA Stag Horn, 110 grains of Goex Pinnacle end the 240 grain .430 XTP bullet in a Knight sabot.

I really like this powder,,, as a matter of fact I'm going back to it from BH209. I'm buying a new Endeavor soon and will be shooting the new JSG Super Sticks... I'll let you guys know how this turns out. In my Pro-Hunter, a 300g Nosler in a HPH 24 loaded with three JSG Sticks shot under MOA all day long and was super easy to clean. Like falcon said you have to seat your rounds nice and tight...
