Default pulled my load yesterday.

yesterday was opening day of rifle season. I did my morning hunt. it was calling for ran so I too a little bit of cling wrap and taped it over the muzzle of my disc extreme, got out about 5:30am set up. just a drop of ran here and there. 6am it picked up a little foggy, 7am, the sky opens up. down pour. I was soaked in 5mins down to my under ware. looked down on the barrel. the water was beading up and rolling off. decided go in. once inside I pushed my load out and clean the gun out. it has been load for 2 weeks. I was planning on doing this anyway. last few times out. it has been no colder then 30*. I had 100grs of triple 7 2f and FPB ready to go in the barrel.

the powder came out in one big clump. with a little in the bullet. a little press and it broke apart.

took the gun completely apart. dried it with a treated towel. used a little foaming bore cleaner, ran an tight patch thou. then used and 97% alcohol patch all over the metal part. followed by an rem oil patch on the barrel and hoppes #9 oil on the trigger group.

when I put it back together I used Teflon tape on the breech plug.

really worried if I got an shot if it would go off like it should of.

on the FPB you can see the where the grooves cut into the bullet and slightly deformed.

HOW DARE YOU. THIS IS A PUBLIC FORUM! DON'T YOU EVER PULL YOUR LOAD IN HERE AGAIN.
Actually I thought those rifles were supposed to be water tight? Anyway, judging from the description of your load, you were probably lucky you didn't get a shot. Good thing you checked it.
I'm going to the range tomorrow to shoot a couple flinters and I am going to attempt to fire off my load I have in my 45 Renegade for the past 2 weeks attempting to shoot a turkey. Its 80 gr of Pyrodex P and a 200 gr XTP with eazy load sabot. I have a good feeling it will go boom.

Actually loose powder will clump together a little when compressed in a the breech. After all, how do you think they make pellets. The main thing is, when you moved the clump between your fingers did it return to grains.. It sounds like it did. I am going to guess that that load would have shot just fine.

Besides with the red primer jacket in place all day, and the cling wrap over the muzzle, you did it all right. I would have bet the farm had you pulled the trigger it would have made a great big boom..

Corey

Which nipple system was in the gun? FPJ or NPFJ? I am wondering if maybe you got moisture up through the breech plug...
