Default T/C Omega problem

I recently bought a Omega Z5 pack at Wally World, and had to return it. The gun shot about 21/2 feet high at 50yds out of the box. I maxed out the elevation down as far as it would go, and still 8-10 inches high. Walmart was decent about it and gave me a new one. Haven't had time to try it yet. Anyone ever heard or experienced something similar? I was using Shockey's Gold/250 SW. I have now switched to BH 209. That stuff's almost like cheating!

Open sights? My omega gave me the same problem. 80gr RS 405 powerbelt was 8" high @ 50 yards and my adjustment was maxed out.

Yeah open sights. Calling T/C is real helpful(sarcasm). They told me to try BH 209. As if a powder change is going to get me 10 inches of elevation correction!

Well that is an advantage of buying from a corporation that will simply exchange or return your money. Hope the new one shoots better.

Yeah, not really a fan of the big box store, but the price was right. I've been watching this forum for some time, and you all are right. This stuff is addicting! It is very similar to reloading ammo, all the endless tinkering and customizing to a particular rifle. So far, its been great.

Something to try if you can... When you get a chance take the breech plug out - support the rifle in some sort of craddle - aim through the barrel at a door know down the hall - then carefully look through the sights and see where they are aiming....

You can use a cardboard box - cut a couple "v" in the box and set the rifle in them... Then look through the sights.

My Omega X7 did that. I called T/C, they had me mailed a new front post in under a week, free of charge.

Hmmm, I never tried my Z5 with the open sights. One day I'll have to do that.

Every other state I've hunted in required that muzzleloaders be used with open sights, no scopes. But since I've moved to TN, and the regs here say a scope is fine, I never even tried to shoot my Omega without it.

I have on that shot dead on with open sights

I bought one for my son 2 weeks ago and it was only 1 inch left and one inch low at 50 yards

I love the gun, which is why I bought one exactly like mine for my son. I didn't like the fiber optic that came on the gun anyway so I had a scope on it within 3 weeks.

The problem is almost certainly the wrong sight installed on the gun.

I have heard of this same issue from more than one MFR, not sure how it gets screwed up so frequently.
