Bummer: no opening day for me

Tomorrow is opening day of the regular season. My plans to go out have been canceled thanks to the blizzard. I have 10 and 12 foot drifts. and no way to dig out. Thank God the electricity is back on. My barns didn't save all the animals. The wind was so strong( 70-80 mph) that all the barns filled with snow, I found dead guineas,geese and chickens today. We have chickens in the basement,and all kinds of animals in the grain bins and house. What a mess. My fences are drifted at least 4 feet higher than the fence so my Wolfhounds walked out. ( not a good thing),I can't even see my vehicle.
Maybe with the storm the deer will come to my alfalfa to eat. That would be kinda nice. I guess we are better off than many. At least the electricity is back on, so the water works
( no more melting snow) and we heat and cook with wood. Boy am I glad of that. Maybe the storm is Obama's fault. LOL.
OH well no need to be bummed I guess. I will get out there sooner or later. Just thought I would share my anguish at missing the first day .

Yes, I have been following the storm on the weather channel. You guys really got hit out there. I hope that storm does not come over to me. Although like you, I heat with wood ( because of heating oil prices.. can't blame Obama for that one). I have plenty in the house to eat, and a generator should the power go out.

When you dig out, take some pictures if you can of the place. Sorry to hear about the animals dying.

I know all about that, my wife had an accident and we ended up clear down south in the Little Rock Orthopedic Hospital [ ST Vincent] with her getting a total knee replacement. First things first, had to stay with her, and take care of her when she got home . I missed the first 2 weeks of bow season and the 2 weeks of muzzle loader season but I got out for a couple hours day before yesterday and got a 120 pound doe [with a bow]and with a little luck I will get out with my muzzy for a day or two during modern gun season which starts tomorrow. You guys there in SD got hit hard. We got the tail end of your storm here in western Nebraska....70mph winds but only two inches of snow. I always look forward to hunting season, but not always the weather that comes with it. I'll be spending the next few days helping some of the old people in our church straighten things out around their places due to the wind. Good luck
