What is the homemade cleaning solution I remember reading about on this forum from years past? Seems like it part rubbing alcohol and maybe windex? Anyone care to share what it is it and what the ratios are?

I use 50% rubbing alcohol (91% knid) and Windshield washer fluid. Works great for 777.

There are a lot of homemade cleaning solutions. The one Chap mentioned works great. Then there is MAP which is Murphy's Oil soap 20%, Isopropyl alcohol 40% and Hydrogen Peroxide 40%. This can cause flash rust so be careful.
As of late I have been using Simple Green. It is a cleaner like 409. You can buy the stuff by the gallon and mix your own strength. I like a strong mix and it really cleans out the fowling.

Am using Windex with vinegar (this is the clear Windex) for guns firedwith Pyrodex and 777. Windex with vinegar also makes short work of breech plug cleaning. For guns fired withPinnacle i use water forthe bore and Windex with vinegar forthe breech plug. Pinnacle is much cleaner burning than Pyrodex and 777 andthe gun isvery easy to clean.
Dave; You mentioned Simple Green. Bout 20 yrs ago an ole guy I worked with whom had shot mzs long before I did, said he used simple green. I can't remember what strength, but He said it worked fine. He was a pres of a mz club up in Lansing, Mi. Chief Okemos Mzldrs. If I rember right. Makes sense to me.
1/3rd Simple Green, 2/3 water. This stuff will even take the soot off the glass of my wood stove. I was cleaning the window one afternoon, amazed that anything could take this stuff off. and then looked in the corner at my dirty muzzleloader. Well I tried it and this stuff really takes the fowling out of a bore.

I had forgotten but I used to use Mr. Clean. I find the breech plug the hardest part on my Omega to clean.
