Scope are only allowed in Wisconsin if they have no magnification. So it was my intent to scope the Remington Genesis with a Nikon 1x20mm but I got a deal on a T/C Hawkins 1x32mm scope so we went that route and saved a few bucks.
I bought high mounts from Traditions because of the cam on the rifle and the shape of the stock. Also the person I spoke with at Traditions suggested to go that way as it was more comfortable to shoot from reports. So I took them at their word and they were right. It pulls perfect and really is a pleasure to shoot. I bore sighted the rifle at 13 yards in the house using my gun rest and a door knob. And took it out to the range to day to see how close I was in my bore sighting..
I was shooting a 300 grain Hornady .44 caliber XTP in a green Harvester Crushed Rib sabot with 100 grains of Pyrodex RS. I thought that looked close enough considering I made no adjustment. Sometimes you just get lucky.
So I ran it back to 25 yards. At this distance according to ballistics charts it should shoot a little over an inch high..
I would say that was where it should be. To double check I aimed a little low and shot two for effect..
I then ran it out to 50 yards. Again, according to the ballistics it should be about two inches high..
It was shooting just a little higher then that but the group was real impressive. I like a scope over iron sights because of my eye sight, and then I do not have to monkey around and wonder if I have the sights all put in the right place. Especially when shooting the fiber optic sights which I do not care for. This looked good. So I then aimed at the bottom of the eight ring and figured that should put a few in to the bulls eye where the 13 yard shots hit. I was right.
If the ballistics continue to hold true, the rifle should be dead on at 100 yards. I will have to test that after I do some yard work.. Besides, 50 yards is a long shot where I live...
This is one of the easiest sight ins I have have in a long time. Also cleaning this rifle is a snap. A ratchet screw driver with a socket set and you can take the gun completely apart, breech plug out, scrub it up and have it back together in no time. Its a nice shooting rifle. I think I will hunt with it a day or two this year..
