Default Swabbing With Alcohol (BlackHorn users - look away now!)

In my last two week-end range sessions I've used nothing but straight91% drug store Isopropyl Alcohol (Top Care brand) for swabbing between shots. I've fired something like a total of200 shots in my GreatPlains, Renegade, and Mustang using both GOEX and Pyrodex - and had great results.

Iwet the patch withAlcohola LOT wetter than I normally would do with other swabbing solutions like Butch's Bore Shine, or soap and water, and wiped with both sides of the patch. The first side of thevery wet patch goes down the bore very easily and pulls out a lot of gunk. By the time it comes out the bore and you turn it over for a second pass, the patch isstarting to dry. Thesecond pass with thereverse side pulls out a little more gunk, and - believe it or not - the bore is completely dry by the time you're readydump the powder. I use Lane's powder tubes at the range so I'm dumpingpowder pretty soonafter pulling out the rod from the secondpass. Not one instance of hang fires, blooper or weak sounding shots.

I haven't tried it with Triple 7 yet, but would expect it to perform about the same as with the other powders. I'm a convert and will use nothing else from now on.

You might want to give it atry. Alcohol - it's not just for drinking anymore.

I had an empty 8 oz. bottle from Butch's Bore Shine that had the little flip up spout in the cap. I used that filled with the straight 91% alcohol. Just squirted some on the patch before I swabbed. Worked fine. A lot of shampoo, hand soap, etc, bottles have those flip up caps that make a little spout. Some of those caps will just fit right on the bottle of alcohol.

It works good for BH209 too. I mix with #9 to get a little protection from flash rust when I use it with Bh209 and put a few drops of water soluble oil in it when I use it with Pyrodex. Lee

Semisane, that is perfect if youchoose to or want to swab bwteen shots. That is the beauty of the BH209, don't goits to do it. But you guys are the ones that taught me about swabbing w/ alcohol and windex both sides of the patch for T7. It does work, but I was getting crusty in the flash hole of the Pro Hunter after a while.

I have an empty prelubbed cleaning patch container that I put about 30 - 50 patches in,soaked the and rang them out an I leep them in there.
On some of the higher profile gig's I play we are isseud laminates for all acces back stage so we can move through security without hassel.
These laminates are put in a ziplock type bag with a triple seal (some of the laminates are not laminates we just call them that)
These little bags a perfect for keeping some prelubed cleaning, alcohol etc patches in my hunting pack for field use.
They wont leak

Buck Hunter-

Do you get the crud ring using alcohol and windex on T7? I haven't used the mixture but it sure seems a lot cheaper that T17 solution. Also, have you tried alcohol and Hoppe's #9? Thanks!

doesthe alcohol swabbing technique clean the bore good enough for a typical cleaning or just between shots? this seems much easier than the typical filling the bath tub with scalding hot water and swabbing with soap and water.
