CT doesn't allow any pistol hunting for deer either.
But we do have a loophole.
According toour state law, a gun with a barrel of 12 inches or more is considered to be a rifle.
So a pistol with a 12 inch barrel can theoreticallybe used for deer hunting here.
Butif Virginia is likemost states thatfollow the federaldefinition of a rifle, theneven a pistol with a 12 inch barrel wouldn't be legal to hunt deerthere.
You can alwaysinquire witha state conservation enforcement officerabout what thelegal barrel length requirementsof a rifle are in Virginia even if it's just for haha's.
Hey Articap, only BP pistols are notallowed. I have a S&W 629 and a Ruger SBH Hunter in .45 Colt that I hunt deer and bear. We have a 50 grs of BP charge restriction for our muzzle stuffers. Iguess they feelthat thelowercharge levelsin pistols is not enough to killa deer humanely.
So by your standards in CT, you should be able to use a TC Encore or Contender with 12" or more barrels for hunting.
