54 cal??

Hey guys,kinkof new to the ML,I have a 54 cal T/C Fire Hawk.The kids gave it to me for last fathers day.Hard to find a good bullet and ass. for it at the local stores.The standard 54 cal hornadys are to tight.The powerbelts are to loose after cleaning.Auy suggestions???

I don't know the rifling of that gun, but I'd try Maxiballs and/or Maxihunters, as those are T/C bullets. Not sure what you mean by too loose after cleaning. Are you saying that your first shot on a clean barrel is inaccurate, or do you find that the powerbelt is not staying down on the charge when the bore is clean?

As long as it stays put when you load it, and it shoots well, no such thing as too easy in my mind.

Well then, the Hornadys may not be "too tight" either. It's hard to describe how much force it should take to load bullets. What you're experiencing could very well be normal for lead conicals.

With Powerbelts you dont swab between shots. You can get between 3 to 7 shots before you feel the powder crud building up in the barrel.

The .54 caliber Firehawk according to the charts has a 1-38 twist. That should shoot conicals real well. I would try some maxiball, Hornady Great Plains, or Powerbelts.

I have a System One 54 cal which also has a 1-38 twist it shoots the MMP purple sabot and 300gr 50cal pistol bullet from widners in a minute of angle it also shoots quite well with a 54cal maxie hunter and the 54cal raal bullet. Lee
