First off, welcome to the forum. Congratulations on the deer. It looks like a dandy table deer as well. What make of rifle is that, an Omega? What load were you shooting? How far away was the deer? How far did it run after being hit. We love stories here. Again, congratulations.. maybe your son's turn is next. We can't all be lucky all of the time.

Thanks for the welcome, have been lurking for a while and learned alot from you guys. My guns a 50 cal Apex, My sons got the Rem genesis. Used 240 Hornaday XTP/Mag with 100 grains T7 pellets. He came in to about 20 yds and made it about another 20 before he dropped like a rock. He had another deer with him, much bigger but never saw the head. Funny thing is the other deer didnt want to leave. As i reloaded the other deer trotted off but snuck back in to be with this buck, even after I climbed down he didnt take off until I was right on it. But it was so thick I still couldn't tell if it was a buck or doe, Ive heard of bach groups but this was odd. Shot alot off deer with 30-06 30-30 etc. but cant believe the damage of the muzzleloader the lungs were destroyed. complete passthrough. Ive had my -06 not do half the damage and the deer run a 100 yds further! I may use it for the rifle season!

Many people misunderstand the power of a muzzleloader. Some consider them as under powered. Until they actually shoot something with them. Sounds like that XTP did the job.
