Finally Got my Optima Elite

First off, don't special order anything from Dicks. I ordered a SS Optima Elite 8/21. I went in 3 weeks later to check the status becuase I wanted to make sure I wasn't going to miss the early ML season here in MD that is next weekend. They said they can't check the status of special orders but they normally take 6-8 weeks. Last week was the 6th week. I went in and at first they couldn't even find my paperwork. The store manager got on the phone and called the warehouse. It was taking a while so I had to get back to work. They said they would call and update me. I got a call yesterday saying that the warehouse never got one of the forms so they just cancelled the order. Of course they don't tell the originating store and therefore I wouldn't have found out. What a crappy system. They had a Optima Elite on the rack but it wasn't stainless, and with the season coming next weekend I just took it. I got it home mounted a spare scope I have and really like the setup. I will try it this weekend with some 200gr Shockwaves and some Shockeys gold. I know the powder sucks now, but I already bought it and will finish that and then switch to the BH209. I have some subbases, so if I can't get a decent group without them, hopefully they will tighten it up good. I will post a range report after this weekend. Anyone have any tips for an Optima?

Some places forget who the customer is and how to treat them.

While the rifle you had to settle for was not a stainless steel model, it should work fine. Stainless steel barrels are nice, without question, but a good blued barrel is still a fine rifle.

Good luck with your rifle. I hope the store was kind enough to cut you a deal on the one you had to settle for. If they didn't everyone in the store would have known about it... I will be waiting for your range report..

Good luck with the new Optima. I know what you mean about Diicks. Ours sell bullets and sabots but don't carry any powder or primershalf the time.

Same experience with ordering my Savage from D-i-c-k-s, I bought it after Christmas in 2006 and got it in May of 20007.Not good. Chap

Well, turns out what I bought from D_I_C_K_s was the combo that was on sale. I remembered seeing something about a rebate for a centerfire barrel but didn't see anything in the box. I thought it was just a discount. I took my Optima in today to get bore sighted and asked the guy and he found the form and I just have to pick the caliber, send the stuff in and they send me a barrel. Now I'm getting 2 guns for $10 more than what I originally paid for the one I ordered. I'm actually glad they screwed it up now.
