Default wife's first time hunting is Sat. 10/4

Well the big day is almost here.Tomorrow will be the start of antelope and doe season. This is the first time my wife has ever hunted. 16 years of marriage , it's about time. She never even shot a gun before this week. After trying 3 different ones she picked the 50 cal. Genesis. She practiced on 3 different days and settled on 100 grains 777 and a 300 gr. scorpion pt gold. Open sights. It's rifle season but she couldn't find a field of view in a scope. She practiced at 50 yards and 75 yards. I told her that if she got 3 in a row in the kill zone today she would be good to go. At 50 yards she had 1 lung shot and 2 heart shots. at 75 yards she had 1 lung shot. So hopefully tomorrow will be a good day for her. We'll see if a live deer stands as long as the paper one did.LOL. The hardest part of the whole deal was getting a babysitter for 8 kids . If you know what i mean
I'll let you know how she does.

Well lets hope both of you get a chance to shoot something. It would be exciting to see her get a chance. I'd like to know if she gets buck fever..

I took my wife one time. We were sitting there and I had a nice buck walking in, down a trail. She stood up, and yelled "Run for your life he's got a gun!!" She then turned and said, I think I will walk back to the house now. I told her that was a real good idea..

Dear Lord, did you say 8 kids? Wow, that's gotta be a handful and a half. Way to go, though for getting your wife out there hunting. I hope she has success!

I take it she wasn't in the mood to be married?

Good luck to you and your wife. Mine has hunted in the past, but says now she'd rather just go along to be out there. I'm working on her to start shooting again. Right now I'm trying to get her to eradicate some pigeons with me.

My goodness chet, no wonder the poor woman didn't go hunting with you. After 8 children she may be afraid of getting close to you.
Anyway, nice to see you have a new hunting buddy. Hope you both do well and have fun.

My goodness is exactly right, he has the best thing he can get:

Psalm 127

3Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.
4As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.
5Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

I believe Chet has his social security right at home just like the Amish do, and I think he sleeps well knowing they are in his house and not in the stock market. :->

Chet, I wish you the very very best hunting with your bride,

Well as a date with the wifey it was great, as a hunting trip we ended up eating chicken. We got started a little late, that happens when you wait on someone else I guess. It was 7:30 before we left the house. The first shelter belt is only 5 minutes away but there is an 850 yard clearing to walk in to it. There was already a buck and doe that had come in to bed down and so we were spotted. we stayed around til 9:30 to no avail. We left to go to our second area, it is real nice pasture with trees and a creek. Unfortunately the owner had already put his cows in there, I saw one muley after walking a couple miles .She was at the very back of the property and simply jumped the fence and went on her way. We left there and went to a place that borders where we were. I sent my wife to the back area to set up and I decided to try to jump some deer out of the brush toward her. I jumped 3 whitetail does. They went straight to where she was and passed within 30 yards of her but never stopped. They weren't in a big hurry, just loping along but she wouldn't take a shot unless they stopped. it takes a while for her to draw a bead and actually squeeze the trigger. A few minute later after I joined her a big 5x5 muley came down the hill. He stopped and stared at us. We watched him for 5 minutes. He was within easy shooting range (102 yds) but "alas" it is anterless season. We had to leave and go home so the babysitter could leave. It was only 2:30pm. I dropped the wife off and I took my 4 wheeler to the first stand of trees and decided to wait for them to come back. I set up in the sunflowers near the trees right on the edge of the alfalfa. When I looked through the scope I saw that the reticle was like an X instead of vertical and horizontal/ It broke from the ride in the gunboot. BUMMER. A brand new scope. I had my doubts about it anyway.(Traditiond hunter series). I packed up and decided to take it back( town is 30 miles away. I live in the boonies on the Indian Reservation. I returned itand got a Nikon Omega . Got home at 4:45. Shot 2 at 50 yards adjusted and shot one at 50 yards; Looked good so I went to 75 yards . shot 1 adjusted , shot one, adjusted and the third one was dead center. I figured that would be good ebough for that day. Jumped on the 4 wheeler at 5:15 and headed back down there. To make a long story short ( probably to late for that LOL)I had a shot at 2 different bucks, naturally , but all the does I saw disappeared in the Sunflowers. I am going to finish sighting in after church today and me and my oldest boy( Josiah age 10) are going back this evening. and tomorrow I am taking the oldes girl, she's 11) Nothing like family time hunting
Chap, you got it right on .Amen to what you said brother.
Anyway. I said all that to say We didn't get a deer but the wife really enjoyed it

chetmarks,
You are blessed
I've been married over 30 years and I can not talk my wife into going hunting with me.....period!
I have very fond memories of hunting with my sons, before they left home and went into the Service. I'm still hoping to convince my daughter who's 11 years old to go with me, but she's a mamma's girl and doesn't want anything to do with it. I bought one of those double ladder stands thinking that might do the trick, but no luck yet.I'll keep working on it though.

Keep us posted....I enjoyed reading your hunting adventure with your wife.

The sweet taste of success. Or should I say venison. Josiah and I went out this afternoon and we no sooner pulled in to the shelterbelt and before we walked down(200yards) Josiah spotted a doe at the tree line. I snuck through the Sunflower field and got to within 80 or so yards. I shot off hand and hit her high. We looked for a blood trail. where she jumped into the brush. Josiah who is 10 actually found it first. We trailed her through the brush about a 100 yards, She came out to the alfalfa and we couldn't find any blood anywere. Hunted high and low, Josiah said that maybe she headed for the sunflowers back where we shot her.. I thought she went south. We searched and searched for her ;no luck. We decided to head back to the 4 wheeler and just before we got there lo and behold there she was. Almost at the sunflowers as Josiah had said. and not 10 yards from where I shot her. The bullet went in high , reflected off the bone and destroyed one lung and was still lodged inside . Great expansion but not much of a blood trail because it didn't exit and the hit was so high. I don't know if I can put up photos or not. Used my T/C triumph 100 gr 777 300 gr shockwave bullet, we are eating good now. Praise God
