RE: Scope or no scope?
If the laws of your State allow it, then it is a personal choice. Scopes do increase your ability to see at longer distance and they offer a set aim point. If you have a stable aim point which allows you to see further distances, it only makes sense that you would be more accurate with a scope then common iron sights at longer distances. But it is a personal preference.
Wisconsin during muzzleloader season does not allow scopes with any magnification. So on some of my rifles I have a 1X scope. On others I have open sights. On some of my inline rifles I have magnification scopes and use them during the modern season. All a matter of preference and what your State allows.
