In my F.L. Lippeta that I bought from Cabela's it is a .44 caliber 1858 New Army Revolver with target sights. I think you're making a wise choice going to Pinnacle 3f or App 3f for the powder as it will reduce fowling and you can shoot longer and clean up is a lot easier then when I used to shoot Goex 3f or Pyrodex P. I now shoot American Pioneer 3f but believe me if I could get my hands on some Pinnacle 3f without having to order it, I'd be shooting that.
My revolver shoots a .451 roundball. I load from a brass horn with a built in funnel. I think it throws 25-30 grains of 3f APP, then a felt wad, then seat the ball. After that I still lube the cylinders with lube I make to avoid any chance of a chain fire. Once was enough, I learned my lesson, and earned my T-shirt.
With mine it will shoot excellent groups out to 25 yards as well.
With that load it would penetrate that 2" plank with little problem, so there is some serious power in that load. I also have a fast draw holster for that revolver that I had custom made for me by Tex Shoemaker Leather Products. So I was playing and doing speed shooting, but with that single action I decided it was too dangerous. But it was fun shooting that plank.
The .454 might load kind of hard. I thought they were for the Ruger and Colts.
