Default darn mountain rifle gave me a scare!

Went shooting yesterday with 100gr rs and i honestly could not get groups for chit! 10" group to be exact @ 100 yards.

90 grains was the same.

Shot 3 more shots today with 90 and an 8" group.

Went home and got 3 more tubes but with 80gr. 3 shots, 2" group!

No clue what the hell is going on! 100gr RS last week shot 1 1/2" groups.

The only thing different, the past 2 days its been really muggy and hot.

Humidity affecting my groups or what?

Got to drift the rear sight over as its shooting 2" to the left and then i will be set.

Almost forgot! On my last 3 shots with 80gr, i switched over to my Knight nipple. Maybe the older one is jacked up and not allowing consistant pressure?

I've had rifles do that more then I care to mention. It just makes me shake my head. I've had track drivers and suddenly it could not hit anything. Hope it all comes around for you.

i do too. i plan on doing some shooting later on in the day to double check before i touch the sights. A few days ago i ran a few patches of Flitz down the bore and holy smokes that stuff is amazing! Patches run down the bore smoothly, loads easier on a fouled barrel, clean up is a breeze. Pretty amazing stuff.

Did my traditions kentucky, the 54 smoothbore and now i will do my omega next

Hey FG, I Flitzed my Omega last week and the first shot loaded really hard and was off by 3 or 4 IN.
The next 5 were in a 1.5" group at 100 yds.
I ran two patches with Flitz and then three dry patches, Don't know if that is the way to do it but I figured do it just like polishing anything else. Is that what you did?
I guess some competition shooter use it in their center fire rifles too.

i actually took an old t shirt that had something painted on it, smeared the flitz across that and then polished the bore with 3 patches. It took maybe 6 dry patches to get it clean. With the mountain rifle i also took one of those patches and wrapped it around the end of my .54cal bore brush and really went at it. Smooooth!

No clue! Right now i am doing my best to control my temper with this rifle right now

Cleaned the rifle, adjuste the sights (almost perfect BTW) and i take 3 loads out to 100 yards, First shot nails the bulls eye 1" above POA and 2" to the right. Next shot, 8" to the right 3rd shot, 8" low of the 1st shot! Almost like a damn triangle shape.

Run back and grab 3 loaders again but with 70gr RS. This load will normally place the first 2 shots touching and the 3rd an inch low.

Not this time! I bet you can guess what this group shot!!

8" again!

I am taking the rifle apart now and going to inspect it really good because i havent a clue as how in the heck it can go from shooting under 2" groups, to where it is now!

Cant be shooter error as i shot 2 groups they shot the same group of 8"

I have some .020 patches i can try but thats going to be a real mess trying to get down! Also have some .018 pillow ticking.

Any ideas guys?
