Default Blackhorn review(pic)

I see some have been trying the new powder so I picked up some also. Im picky about what I use since I might take 1 shot per BP season so I want it to count. Ive been using 777 since its been out with good success. I mainly grouped 2-3inches at 100yards with the 777 which wasnt bad. That was in a Knight Revolution 50cal. This season I went out and bought the TC Pro Hunter Endeavor. I sighted her in for the 777 and again had 2-3inch groups for testing. Well today I tried the BH 209 and needless to say Im switching. The below photo tells the tale. I used 115grains, 250grain shockwave, and this was at 100 yards. At the widest point the group is mainly 1 1/8th inch, but I can fit a a nickel over the group of the 4 shots. The center shot was at 40 yards just to test close up and well says enough. Im very impressed with the grouping. I did notice this stuff still fouls the barrel. I shot 3 shots without cleaning and cleane don the 4th shot just to see. Normally with 777 my ramrod will get stuck but it came out with ease. Smoke after the shot was about 50% less which makes for a quick view after the shot. I hardly shoot past 100 yards so im very happy with this, normally my average shot might be 20 yards. If you havent tried it, pick up some. Its good stuff, but its not a easy as dropping 2 pellets down the muzzle.

I still say the price for this stuff is just ridiculous. I will stay with my real blackpowder. I use Goex and this is just what the doc ordered.

If I was doing some target shooting, maybe. I am hunting and I am happy with my results.

If Black is easily available to you then you are lucky. Maybe the way things are going you should consider stocking up they just might quit making it. Lee

That Endevor appears to be a more expensive version of a cross between the Triumph and the Encore. Lee

i dont think its bad since the triple 7 pellets are 32-35bucks a box now and I know it takes 3 pellets to equal the charge of just 100 grains of the BH from what testing has showed. My groups were great with the triple 7, but just the slight reduction on smoke after shooting was the biggest thing I liked. That and the cleaner breech. Swabbing between shots with this stuff or any other im sure everything will shoot the same spot though. Just depends on whatcha like.

Its about what works for you

you would be correct.. I actually picked this up cheaper than the pro hunter(store gave me a deal for being a good customer over the years). No way was I paying 100-200bucks more for the same basic gun Only thing I see different from the pro hunter is 1-2 more of those recoil rubber peices, breech turns out by hand, and some fancy engraving on the reciever

Beautiful for your first shots, makes you a believer very fast. Very nice shooting. I shot BH in my Omega and got very similar results with Barnes 300g MZ. Best Wishes and welcome to the forum. We have a SemiSane individual, so you should fit right in with all the 12 step crew for Muzzleloader addiction.

Gimpy, tell me about it Im sold on the stuff but I found out the triple 7 primers are bad for this stuff. They actaully shot damn good for me. But Im gonna switch back to CCI or something because I dont want to risk a hangfire when it counts. I just like knowing if I pull the trigger during those 2 weeks its gonna count on the big boy

Saxman, ive been here for awhile.. just havent posted much. When hunting season draws near I tend to post and visit more LOL(go figure)
