I think you are talking about he SSB 375 grain?
I shoot them in my thunder hawk 50 cal.using 85 grains if triple777 from the bench at 100 yards 3 shots in a 1" hole
I also tried from the bench 200 yards they shoot about 17" low but a excellent group 4" with 5 rounds
I hit a doe with one a few years back she took 2 steps

Despite the discussions of bullet efficiency,if used properly almost all will do a decent job, especially the lead bullets, I have a few rules of thumb I follow, a pure lead bullet should never be loaded with more than 100gr of black powder or equivalent there is two reasons for this one is if they up set two much you lose accuracy the other is a hollow point pure lead bullet can and will frag like a dropped light bulb if pushed to hard. Now remember I said black powder or equivalent, for instance 80 gr of Black Horn would be an equivalent velocity. There are some bullets like the all copper ones that do not have an upper limit and the bonded bullets may be in that category as far as black and substitute powder are concerned. If you use a jacketed bullet with a pure lead core then I would hold to a max of about 1850 fps[ like a lot of the pistol bullets.
A number of people are using the bullet that you are talking aboutthe [SSB 375I believe] as well as the 389 and the 405 with 70 to 90 gr and having good to excellant results. Lee

Thanks Lonewolf & Lee.
Anybody else have anything to add?
Being pure lead & heavy (375gr), 85g T7 sounds like it woukd be a max load.

I shoot them all the time but have yet to harvest any game with them. I find them easy to load, and extremely accurate. I do know of one person that hunted elk with them. He loaded 110 grains of Triple Se7en 2f and shot a broadside shot. The bullet he told me expanded perfectly, and was under the skin on the off side.

I shoot them with normally 100 grains of powder in most rifles. In some of the shorter barrels I find 85 grains a better load. I see no reason why they would not be a superior hunting load, but again.. I have never harvested anything with them.

+1 with a question. But how do you know Lee if a bullet will be used properly? In a hunting situation you really don't know if your gonna hit bone because we aim and sometimes for whatever reason we miss by 3" and hit the scapula, then you need a strong bullet for penetration. Penetration into the vitals with expansion does the efficient job of killing.

"Accuracy is king, penetration is queen, expansion is prince with shoot thru the princess." TM (nobody has trademarked this yet)

Gotta have all 4 of the court present to really do the bullet job in >>all<< situations. I just saw the Hornady FPB 350g last night for the first time, and they looked like a very good sabotless bullet going big and slow and I believe the 350g will shoot thru big bone because of the weight. Didn't buy any at Walmart, but will try to pick some up at Christmas time when the have the sales on MLer stuff (I thought $19 for 15 bullets was a lot also for a jacketed lead bullet). Not trying to pick a fight, I agree with you in principle that any bullet will work if used properly, but we have so many many folks that only shoot 1 time/year and they shoot 3 pellets and whatever bullet the manufacturer recommends (PB if CVA, Traditions has their bullets which are Barnes and Parker Ballistic Extremes, Knight is a Barnes and Hornady recommended bullet, TC is a ShockWave). Most sales people at the big stores do NOT know hardly anything about inlines or MLing and therefore recommend the biggest seller which is PBs.
I am rambling about my favorite topic, so Ineed to quit. Thanks for your wisdom.
