Default Some recovered 405's

Pulled my 3 bullets from my last 100 yard shooting, out of my sand bucket a couple days ago. Had to take some pictures of these before i send them off to the melting pot tomorrow "Ran out of .54 round balls!"

80gr Pyrodex RS, 405gr Aerotip Powerbelt.

Just a small sample,

They look good, why didn't they expand at the head a bit better? Because of the aeotip? Good elk bullet at that weight and that charge. Chap

FG - why do I get the feeling you have a Powerbelt fetish? Anyway, have you tried pushing these any harder to see if expansion increases while still maintaining accuracy? Of course, I think a 54 cal, 405 gr projectile is gonna do a lot of damage no matter how much it expands. It would be interesting to see how much you can get them to open up without deteriorating accuracy or busting your shoulder.

The 405 will handle 100gr RS @50 yards. Recoil is not very comfortable while shooting from a field position. I tried 1 shot off my shooting sticks and packed it up and said Noooo thank you!

Yes,Chap that is exactly why they did not open up as much as what you'd normally see from some of my other posts They expanded very consistent and all have the "slide" edge where the bullet impacts at an angle due to me having to shoot at an upward angle. I always aim for a comfortable load, especially with a bullet this big.

The bullet on the far right expanded right down to the Hollow Point as you can see the Aerotip went lays sideways. My Aerotip design doesnt allow that to happen, but i have no way of making the tips the way i want them.

Chap, Just took some measurements to show how much the nose expanded.

New .499" DIA.

Left to right,

.711" "Left"

.796" Middle"

.966" "Right"

Thats gonna leave a big hole and lots O blood!
