Default The best 209 primers with 777

One of responces to my last post got me thinking. What 209 primers do you guys find the most accurate with 777 powder? I'm using regular Winchester 209's now and am thinking of making a change. What works the best for you?

Shooting Triple Se7en loose powder, I like the Remington Kleenbore or the Winchester W209 primers.

Before I converted my Mustang to .25ACP I tried just about every primer out there. In that gun the CCIs were the best and cleanest.

I have had issues with the Winchester 777s with some of the primers if I don't almost slam the gun shut the hammer will not pull back. Not something that I would like to have happen with a buck of a life time in my cross hairs.

I've tried Federal 209A, Remington Kleenbore, 777 primers & the "Vari-flame" primer system that allows you to used small rifle primers in a 209 setup. After a lot of testing, in my rifle these are the most accurate in order:

1. 777 primers
2. Remington Kleenbore (usually pretty accurate, but seem to get flyers sometimes)
3. Federal 209A
4. Vari-Flame system

The Vari-Flame system might have the potential to be very accurate, but I had a lot of trouble with misfires and noticeable lag times between when the primer went off and the main charge went off. These issues caused me to flinch or move sometimes and threw off accuracy.

From reading posts on this site, it seems like every gun can prefer a different type of primer. You almost need to buy a couple different kinds and compare them side-by-side in your gun.

Thought the crud ring was bad with Winchester 209 primers. Then i tried the Winchester 777 primers and the crud ring was worse. Solved the problem when i abandoned 777.
