Default Late homework assignment; .50 GMBs

Finally got to the range this a.m. Have'nt shot since apr. shame on me!! Took th renegade w/28"gmb lrh bbl and the wmc w/21" gmb, both .50s. Both are scoped due to the fact I see two front sights w/my old eyes. The wmc w/a weaver1.5 to 3x and the renegade w/4x leopold compact, qr warne rings on both. The wmc I shot 90gr goex3f, 300gr xtp w/crush rib sabot. After sight in at 25m went to 50m The wmc shot .75" not bad for a slightly creepy trigger. the ren shot w/90gr 3f goex, 300gr xtp Wcrush rib sabot 1.5' Not great but it has potential. Then 90gr swiss3f, 300 xtp, crush rib .75 lots better!! Then I shot 80gr t72f , .503 460gr no excuses 1 flyer opened up group to1.75 but 4 were in .75 almost touching Temp was 82 then. So both thes rifles have some serious potential. The .503s loaded w/thumb pressure, got to get some .504 bullshops .460s I swabbed w/damp patch (alc and ww solvent) then 2 dry patches after every shot. Then it got warm, 82dg by then. supp0sed to cool off next few days. Shoot again!! One of the reasons, no shooting was the picking of 5, yes five gallons of huckleberries!! The bushes were loaded out in the marsh!!

Nice shooting there Thumper. If you have any, try some of the .430 300 grain Hornady XTP in a green crushed rib sabot. Mine loves that load with 100 grain of Goex 2f.

I noticed I have a good crop of wild raspberries this year as well. I hope to get to them before the black bears.

ut oh thumper. I think I can smell blueberry pie, blueberry cobbler, bberry jam, etc. etc, in your future. Well if you get sick of them you can always ration them out to all us guys. 5 gallons - whew - that's a lot of pickin.
No wonder your seeing 2 front sights. Hey that give me an idea - maybe if you painted the front sight dark blue/purple you may see it better. What do you think?

Dave; I was using the green crush ribs. I attribute some of the so-so grouping to lack of shooting. Loose operating nut, as they say!! As for the berries, we have had hucklberry pancakes, homemade ice cream w/fresh huckleberries , and Patty makes a huckleberry buckle to die for!!! Its like a coffe cake w/a crunch topping. I may have to try a blue front sight, late season it ought to show up in the snow!!

That's good shooting Thumper. I've got the old fart eye problem too. I was particularly interested you your report on the LRH Renegade - .75" @ 50m with 90 gr Swiss and a 300 grain bullet sure sounds sweet to me. Guess I'll have to think about putting a scope on my LRH Renegade. What type of base do you have and where did you get it?

Semi; If i rember right, the one on the ren. I got off gunbroker, it has a "base adapter" a weaver style base then I put warne qd rings. I do have a base adapter base and ring assembly. the old style TC system. the base adapter is a 3 screw system, 2 screws that go where the rear sight is and the third where the rear screw is on or in the bbl lug. But this base is a tad longer than the other two I have. If you want try it we can work something out. (cheap) as I don't need it and it is taking up space.

I would have to agree that the QD rings would be the way to go with the traditional style rifle. You can pop the scope off for cleaning and when done, put it right back on and not change POI - at least I would think it would hold.
I know it won't be long until I am going to need something other than the iron sights. The last time out the red fiber optic in the 50 cal looked like a figure 8.
