Default New toy is here

Just got my CVA Bigbore .54cal Percussion in today! This takes the place of the .54 GPR i sold a while back. I needed something that could shoot the easy to find pyrodex!

I'll have to do a bit of work like restaining and rebrowing. The Curley Maple is just beautiful!

All the lighter areas are worn down stain from use in the field. Thats the #1 reason why i have to refinish the stock.

Looks like you got a good one gander. How does the bore look? That stock ought to be just beautiful with the right finsih.

That's the No 1 reason I wouldn't redo the stock. It's called character.

Bore has just a small area of pitting but after putting 5 shots into a huge hole @ 25 yards i can tell already that it is a shooter. I will buy some bore polish and that should take it right out. Luckily its right at the muzzle and the rifling is deep.

great rifle so far!

I plan on keeping this one and investing into a high quality lock and triggers.

FG I had one just like her years ago set in a friends gun cabinet now. A very good shooter but went for better things at the time. Have you every heard of a replacement bolster screw for the CVA it is stainless and is removed with a nipple wrench. I got 6 of them a couple if years ago the really work nice. If you are going to keep this one I will send you one to try.

John thats news to me. I apprecaite the offer man but am going to have to pass. The SS will stand out to much against the browned barrel. I hardly ever touch that screw any way, it may as well not even be there!

Heres 6 shots from 25 yards. Accuracy with my first load! 60g pyrodex P, 224g Homecast wheel weight round ball and a traditions .015 patch lubed with their borebutter/1000 shot lube stuff. Im pretty sure i flinched on #1 shot,

Now you make me wish I had not sold mine o well that 32 inch 54 was a bear to carry in the woods. I have 3 54"s to replace it 2 Lyman deer stalkers and a CVA St Louis Hawkin.
