Default 200 grain Hornady SST or 180 grain Gold dot?

Im thinking about trying some 200 grain Hornady SSTs in my Omega X7. My gun shoots the 180 grain .40Gold DotsIn the blue mmp sabot 50/40 pretty well. Just wondering if the SST shoots as goodwould itbe a better hunting bullet . Jay

P.S. IF Im stuck in shotgun zone again this year this may be the only gun that sees the woods. Shotgun sabots are pricey

Either one should work well, but I understand the desire to tinker around with something new even if what you have is working okay. The Gold Dots won't shoot as flat as the SST's, but if you're shooting at 150 yards and under, it won't really matter. If you want to try and shoot out to 200 or so, the SST's are going to be a better bet. I like the SST's because they shoot like a lazer beam in my CVA. You can check a post I put up like a week ago on the 200 grain SST terminal perfomance - I shot a deer wounded by a car and wasn't too impressed with the performance initially. However quite a few guys wrote to share their more positive experiences with this bullet - I decided futher testing is required

The 200 has much better sectional density and a better BC, as well as the fact that in a majority of guns it groups better. Lee

To be honest 50 to 80 yards is my average shot for deer, but It would be neat to see what the gun / bullet combo would do at 200 yards. Thats hard to imagine from a ML. I think Im gonna pick up some of the SSTs & another pack of the MMP sabots. Another exscuse fr a day at the range

Most inline guns shooting 777 at 130 to 150g with an 250 or 200g SST can get to 200 yards no problem. Any bulletsighted in 3" high at 100 yards (3" over method) will shoot to 150 to 175 yards no problem, anything further hasto have ahigher ballistic coefficient. That is onereason I like theBarnes Origonal 300g SSP, the BC is .291, the 300g SST is.251. It is energy at thepoint of impact, with excellent expansion, penetration and shoot thru that weare looking for in a bullet.

I Would go with the 200gr SST or ShockWaves they are super accurate out of my Disc extreme with 110gr of 2fg 777 3shot groups @ 100yds 5/8"

I reccomend the 200 grainSST bullets/200g Shockwaves.

The 180GD's have good accuracy, but have that Huge scooped out hollow point, and will open way too fast is my guess[:@]
