Hello, I Have just bought a Lyman Great Plains Rifle. My problem is the front wedge falls out. The manual recommends tohammer in the lug for
a tighter fit. Its there any other way to remedy this problem. If you drive
the wedge from left to right it seems a little better. But I just don,t know
enought. I just hate to take a hammering to my new rifle and maybe ruin
the lug. Thanks
Or, you can put a slight bend in the wedge itself.

On the TC, I was putting the Wedge pin in, left to right instead of the proper way of right to left, with the gun being held by the shooter so you understand the reference. Doing this stripped the left wedge pin holding screws and I had to get a new stock. I didn't realize that right to left was the proper way for the wedge pin to go in. Now this is a TC, I don't know if it is what is true for Lyman. Chap Gleason

So far as I know, all wedge pins and dove tail sights go in right to left.

Now where is that written in the Owners manual or is that 'common knowledge' to FL shooters, 'cause it wasn't to me. I found out when one of my brother's friends saw mine and he showed me that the right hand side is BIGGER than the LHS making the wedge pin, since it is tapered, logically go in Right to Left. I really liked mine going in Left to right because I carried my gun with my left hand and the wedgepin stuck my hand if I went in R to L. Anyway I am with the program now, but Iwill cut my wedge pin off or turn my wedge pin down to be flush with the LHS. Chap

I think all my wedge pins are bent a bit. Just enough to be snug and not fall out. Just set it on a vise or concrete and tap it with a ball peen or plastic mallet and check for fit. Once you have a slight bend in it you can try it with the bend up or bend down to see which is a better fit. Wedge pins are a whole lot cheaper than a barrel lug.
