Default new englander is in the mail

I sent my new englander off to tc just a little while ago. I blame semi, I was going to hold off and send it a few month from now but his report on tc service just put the kick in pants I needed.

also sent FG, an care package.

only problem I had was, at the post office the guy asked me 3 times if I had an bullet in it. also told me you can only send ML back to the company. which I know is wrong. unless that has changed in 2 months

Well the idea of asking about a bullet in it is for the protection of the drivers..Only afool would tell them.. why yes, in fact itis loaded for bear. Although, people do send loaded muzzleloaders. BELIEVE ME I know this for a fact. Also when you purchase a used muzzleloader or get one back from a factory.. never just put a cap on that thing and fire it off to see if the cap works. You might be in for a real surprise. Same as when you buy one out of a pawn shop. Some people sell them to pawn shops because they can not get the bullet out of them.. So be careful there too.

As for they only mail to a company, well again they are thinking in terms of center fire where a licensed FFL must be present. You lucky they did not ask to see your FFL certification. My post office will not mail a muzzleloader. I have argued that point over and over with her. The person simply refuses. I have mailed them mind you, I just never tell them what is in the box. When they ask I tell them tools. In fact when I send anything to do with muzzleloaders (those who I have mailed) it will claim "tools." What else is a muzzleloader? Its a tool...

next time I send one, I am going to get a plan brown box. and mark it "food processing tools"

as for someone selling guns to pawn shops with bullets stuck in them. a local pawn shop had a cva elk horn (been a while since I been there, it was a bolt action). for $79 or best offer. got talking to the guy behind the counter, the note on the rifle said 2 loads, he dropped the ram rod. he guessed 3 loads

that pawn shop no longer take in any guns with loads stuck in them. it was also missing the bolt and the stock was needing replaced

I send ML's through the US mail all the time - no problem here....

Bullets - often you do have to explain sometimes you are not sending a live round... When you say bullet most people think your talking the whole thing. When I send bullets - I call them lead projectiles - no shell or cartridge case.

Just call them cast lead cylinders, or swagged lead/copper cylinders.

As long as the item is legal to ship, there's no need to not be truthful. The fewignorant postal clerks usually always get over ruled by their supervisors. If they think that someone is lying, they have the right to open up the package which puts thecontents at risk. If people think that they never do it, then think again.
So just cooperate and be truthful, or they might think that it's a smokeless gun which can lead them to requirebeing shownthe receiver's FFL in order to ship, which is a legimate request and concern of theirs. If they dosuspect that it's a gun, then they have the right to ask what kind. Just say it's an antique [type].
Whyscrew around lyingtopostal employees unnecessarily?
Whena postal customer is in the right, they have all of themight!
I wouldcomplain tothe postmaster or assistant postmaster, and thengo higherup the chain until someonetakes enough notice to do their job right. The postalregulations are on the web to be copied and presented.Any clerk should be written up for incompetence forrefusing to accept a muzzle loader for shipment! It's time tostop theseinsubordinate clerks and turn themin. They're public servants who should know how to read!
What people choose to tell private shippers is up to them, but they alsohave the right to inspect every package too. So give them a reason to be suspicious and it could come back to bite someone with loss of insurance coverage, openedpackagesetc...

What restrictions apply to shipping muzzleloading firearms?
As I remember reading, Muzzleloaders under The Gun Control Act of 1968are not restricted in trade by any federal law or regulation. This applies to both antique and new made muzzleloaders. There may be state or local ordinances which restrict your ability to ship direct to the customer or company. Residents of HI, NJ, MA and MI are urged to check their state and local laws for any restrictions on ordering black powder firearms.

if you sent it ups the first 100$ insurance is free. i will tell you from experience that with most shipping companies it is next to immpossible to collect on a damage claim. even if they pack it for you they have every excuse in the book to not pay on a item damaged. good luck with the new englander!
