I know this is a bit off topic but I feel I need to tell you guys about my weekend simply because even though I have never met you, I feel akinship with some of you. I've been dying to get out and snap a few caps off. I got some Harvester EZ load sabots 45/40 for my 45 and still have yet to try the 320 REALs I cast.
But I ran into quite a few snags this weekend. Saturday we had to watch the grandkids which was no problem and in fact - a lot of fun. Sunday however was a disaster. Our yellow lab took some kind of stroke - probably from the heat and died in the Vet emergency room. She was a great dog and it happened so fast. The wife and Iwere really broken up about it and she got up crying on Monday and went on line looking. I am sitting here typing this with a 9 week old yellow lab female fast asleep at my feet. The wife is still a bit upset but this pup is doing a great job with easing her pain.

My sympathies to you and your family over the loss of your dog. While there is nothing that can fill the hole in your heart the loss of a pet causes, I will bet the addition of the new puppy will sure help heal it quicker. What a little beauty she is. Before this male black lab I have now, I owned a yellow lab female. She had to be the sweetest dog in the world. Actually when I went to the breeder to pick out a new one, I was after a yellow female who was purchased as I headed up the driveway.

I am facing the same thing soon, with my 15 year old Labrador that is deaf (probably from sitting next to the shooting bench all these years) and just in ruff shape. In fact as much as he likes to go out side with me, in this heat I make him stay inside the house where it is nice and cool. Where he sits at the patio door and watches me, barking the whole time..

Best of luck with the new puppy... what you going to name that little beauty?

sorry to hear that i can feel your pain
i have a 1 yera old ****zo
that a few months ago got attacked by a pit nearly killed
broke his ribs in 15 places

The guy did not care just let the dog loose to run around
the vet told me they would need to put him to sleep but i would not let him go
sad thing is the co that came out to the lake wrote in his report that my 10 pound dog went over to the pit biting at it when it was the other way
he is now running around and almost back to normal

I am sorry for you lost and that is a great pup
a pet is just like a kid

Yep, that definitely sucks. My shooting buddy was a chocolatelab named Katy. Katy didn't belong to me but I saw her often enough out at my friend's house that I grew quite fond of her and her antics. She was always delighted to see me coming. Shewould get under the shooting bench and anxiously await the blast. Then it was off to the races, sometimes she would run down and circle the target and other times she would run down and jump in the nearby pond before running back to get into position again. She would pant so hard that sometimes I felt she was shaking the bench. It got to be my practice to tell her toget quiet just before I pulled the trigger and I could swear that dog would then hold her breath, quiet as a church mouse. Katy ranged out too far late one night and got ran over on the highway.

My friend's new dog, Pete, is a yellow lab and absolutely hates my (or any other) shooting sessions. He's a very friendly dog and we like each other just fine, but he just doesn't fill the gap left by ol Katy.

I'm glad you have that pup to ease the pain. Looks like a fine one.

No doubt about it bronko, loss of a loved pet is tough.

I lost a fine "mutt" companion about a week after returning home after evacuating for Hurricane Katrina. He tangled with some critter in the middle of the night and got a bad infection from it. Like you, I found I could not live without a dog in the house. After about two weeks I picked up the funny little gal below from the local animal shelter because she had a kind of intelligent look in her eyes. Vet said she was about six months old at the time. I think she's smarter than I am.

So very sorry to hear of the loss of your loved one. She is with the Great Spirit now waiting for the day you reunite to do the things you did together again.

I feel your pain as I had a cat( I don't do cats for the most part.)that some how attached himself to my heart. He started not eatting and acting drunk this spring. I took him to the vet where it was determined he had a brain tumor that could not be removed. He was put down and I still some times find my self calling for him after close to 4 months.

I also have 4 dogs, the oldest a choclate lab 13 yrs old. she is crippled up but decideds to go on the 45 minute walk with the other 3 every evening and some times even on the morning walk. I dread the day when she is no longer with us.

Your Yellow Labby is a beautiful baby. Buy her a kong as labbies like to chew till they get about 2 years old.
