Went to Memphis wife wanted to vist friends and I alwaays turn those trips into goody hunts, I a Walmart in Memphis I found some FPB for 7 dollars a carton so haveing low resistance I bought some always like to try new things. After I done my regular shooting and the barrels were hot I decieded to see what they would do with that kind of a disadvantage. I shot 100gr for 3 shots each with the barrels so hot you did not want to hold them with bare hands, and got a nice pair of groups that were just over an inch so I took a break and a cold drink while I let them cool shot again and got a pair of groups just under an inch and I dont even have any idea what load they shoot best with. I will be getting some more and am considering re sighting in with them when I find what load they like.
I was getting an average of 1800 fps which with a 350 gr conical I consider real decent now if any one knows any thing about the terminal preformance of this bullet I would like to hear about it. Lee
I think the bullet is too new to have much field reports of how they work. I was reading about them and their concept seems to make a lot of sense. Now a conical that size at that speed is going to do damage no matter what. It would be interesting to see some hunting reports later this year. I have not seen them in stores around here yet.

I was really suprised at how well they shoot I was not even sure BH209 would work with thembut ignition was perfect as far as I could tell and 1800 fps is getting a 350 gr bullet down range with a fair amount of enegry if they dont blow up like PB's would at that speed they will out group a large percent of the loads I have tried with out even finding the load that works best with them, that shocks me, they may well be better than sabots for normal hunting and while I have not yet figured out the BC I am hoping it will be reasonable. I was kind of hoping some one had shot some bullets into balistic jell or sand, wet sand will actually tell a lot about a bullet.
They leave the muzzle with 2500 ft.pound and still have 1300 at 200yds. I would say they would bump something with authority as long as they hold together acording to the strain gage the pressure is low enough that it would not bother me to shoot them with 120 gr BH. Lee

Can you measure the diameter of that bullet for me? I like the prospects of that bullet for an elk load. I am thinking about using my White for elk this year if I can find a load I like with a large enough conical to do the job. I have a couple of sabot loads and also got good groups with Maxiballs but would like more options than that.
For mule deer this year I plan on using my Magbolt with the 200gr SW's since some of the areas I am hunting have some wide open spaces. For elk, I want to go bigger since I drew a bull tag.

again, you can not exactly compair these to powerbelts due to the fact that the new hornady conical is not pure lead but a beefed up "Alloy?" to hold them together.
if they were made of pure lead, that hole at the base of the bullet Plus the hole for the tip, i believe the performance would be by far worse than a powerbelt.

Can do,It appears the back half off the body upsets, This inclines me to believe they are made the way we used to make paper patch bench bullets; that is we cast them in two peices the back being pure lead the front wheel weights so it did not deform while loading [my opinion for what it is worth] Sweated together and plated thick enough this would eliminate the problems and increase accuracy. Well they upset and take the rifleing very nicely which argues that at least the back half is pure lead. I suspect you could be right about the front half.
It may be possable that I stumbled on the best load to start with but I doubt it, I think the harder you push them the better they will shoot[ they might just kick a bit to if you put enough powder in] I am getting 1800 fps at the muzzle with 100gr BH and 2550 footpounds.
Hornady shows that they will mushroom nicly at 1950fps thatsabout a wopping 3000 foot pounds makes me think recoil [ouch] I am hopeing for around 2000 fps with 120 gr BH if it will keep the group. I would be a bit more comfortable with that for elk.
