Ok farm guys, I bought a couple bags of Alfalfa and clover mix and it says not to plant it if the temp drops under 30* We are still getting nights that are in the low 20's[:'(] What should i do? With this global warming theres no telling how the weather will turn out from one day to the next.

Will it kill the seeds if i spread them now and the temp drops under 30?

Nice tractors, All i have is a 300 artic cat 4 wheeler and a home build rake/ripper that i attach to the rear of the cat Hey, it works good.

How can you afford the fuel for those babies. We have a 92 horsepower New Holland that is eating us out of house and home. I just bought two tons of pot ash for the alfalfa field. $520 a ton. How are we small guys to make it. We are being priced out of the market. We switched this meadow over to alfalfa this year. I sure hope it increases our yield. Tom.

Johnny2, when I first viewed your post I could only see the tractors so the part about your wife and the kids had me scratching my head (which takes all day).

Frontier it is normally not a good idea to mix alfalfa and clover. The clover will overtake the alfalfa, and the alfalfa is highen in protein. You also fertilize differently for clover than alfalfa. You only use PotAsh for alfalfa but you use triple 19 for clover. It is necessary(not mandatory)to kill all the grass and clover before you plant the alfalfa. It is also best to plant the alfalfa into the ground(not to sprikle on top of the ground). The reason you use Potash instead of triple 19 is because alfalfa does not require Nitrogen to grow. It is a legume and fixates its own Nitrogen. Alfalfa is best, but takes considerably more upkeep. Tom.

Tom,

We spent about 6000 last year on fuel,I look for it to double this year...
We have to do the best we can to stay above water..Lets hope the corn prices hold on for a long time...
Right now it is 200 dollars a ton....
