Default American Pioneer powder sticks .50 /50

A couple of weeks ago I was testing some AP sticks. Two sticks behind a 295gr bullet. In about ten shots I had to stomp out three grass fires. Apparently the darn stuff was not burning in the gun and would make it about 30 feet before it hit the ground. Has anyone else had this sort of thing happen? I think I will try to return it to where I bought it.

In it's old pellet form (before the law suit)my brother said it made a good tracer as the second pellet would burn with lots of smoke going down range.

If you were shooting the square sticks, I'm assuming they're like JSG sticks where you have to crush them when you seat the bullet? That's the only time I've ever heard of a problem with any of the powder stick causing those kinds of problems. Sorry if I'm stating the obvious here.

Good idea, the loose 3f is better. I've read that the sticks need to be crushed, are you doing that? Chap Gleason

The APP sticks need to be slightly crushed when seating the bullet. APP sticks and JSG sticks are very problematic. The SD is very high for velocity and pressure. I Use JSG FFG with good results. JSG granular likes a tight fitting sabot seated very firmly.

When I shot shockey's gold I found I had that sort of problem when there was even a hint of lube of any kind present in the barrel-also bullets must be seated very firmly even to the point of partly curshing the sticks. But I could'nt find a way to get consistant results in velocity or accuracy.

I'd dump the pellets. No matter what pellet it is. Loose powder has always been reliable. Pellets are no faster to load than loose powder.
