Default T7 FF or FFF in .45 cal

I recently got a couple of .45"™s cheap to play with, Kodiak and Optima Pro. I was wondering because the .45 has less barrel volume if FFF might be better. I can try both but I thougth somebody might have some experience in the .45"™s. thanks

bowbender,I have a .45 and I've used FFG so far. I use 777 and I've checked with Hogdgon to see if FFFG would be better - the only difference I've seen is that the printed loads show a slightly higher velocity with FFFG - but it's not a huge difference. So I think either would work fine, but you might get a few more fps with FFFG. Hope this helps.

The old rule of thumb with black powder was if 50 caliber and under use FFFg powder. If 50 caliber and bigger then FFg powder. The 50 caliber being the either or caliber. I use FFFg in my 50 caliber with good luck. I even shoot the FFFg in some of my traditional .54 calibers, again with good luck. In your modern inline it is not going to make a difference because the 209 ignition will set about anything off.. And because of the powder, you will have to swab the barrel anyway.

Personally I would try both. If if I had to pick one, I would get the FFFg powder. Remember to load it down a little from the FFg standards. Especially from the Pyrodex RS and Black Powder standards..
