Default load suggestions for an 7 yr old

I have a 7 year old nephew who wants to shoot one of my ML's. I really want to try to not to go out and buy some new bullets just for me to shoot.

what bullets I have on hand:
.430 216gr swc (home cast)
223gr buffelo bullet
round balls (no loads worked up yet)
.452 230gr seirra sports kings HP
.452 250gr xtp
.429 240gr xtp
all others are over 300gr

powders
pyrodex p
pyro rs
triple 7

could be a good excuse for me to pick up some goex

little help on this, I don't want the poor boy to end up one his ass

A patched ball over 50 grains Pyrodex in that New Englanderwith a shooting stick rest, and he won't feel a thing. Make the target big, like a paper plate taped to a cardboard box, and make sure he wears eye and ear protection.

even load 50 grains of Pyrodex RS and a patched ball in your Knight and he will never know it went off.. We had seven year olds so small that they could not lift the rifle do we rested it on the porch rail for them and they were shooting 70 grains of Pyrodex RS and patched roundballs...

I do have an recoil pad on my knight (I can't feel a 405gr .458 over 75grs of triple 7). that maybe the one I may (if his dad lets me) shot that one (patched ball over 50grs of pyrodex rs).

that sounds a like a good like tree rat and ground hog load

I do not know if they make one of them for the New Englander. The New Englander is an all round barrel. The problem you would face is the barrels we are getting are octagon. They would not fit the stock of the new englander. Also I think someone said they were all sold out. Which is a shame. I was thinking of getting a spare. Looks like you are going to have to get a Renegade or a T/C Hawkins.

oh darn, I have to go out and look for those 2 guns and try to buy one.

just as well, I rather get an ass chewing for a whole gun and not just the barrel.

Hey, let the kiddo shoot either the 216 grain or 230 grain bullet over 80 grains of 777 powder. I used to shoot 90 grains of pyrodex RS and a 300 grain bullet that damn near killed me. I switched to a 220 grain bullet and 80 grains of powder and love it. Let us know what you end up with and how it shoots. Cya, greg
