Default .457-458 bullet loads

I need some loads for the .457 - .458. next week I am ordering a mold for it and also going to start working on a data base.

last range session I shot some that where sent to me with 75grs of 777. I am going to switch it to pyrodex rs or go on and get some goex.

Did those bullets work ok you may want to get some 458 sabots from mmp they may shoot better. I have not tried them.

The key will probably be sabot fit (I assume we aretalking about .50's). Orange mmp's(medium loose), black crush ribs(tight!), plain harvesters(pretty tight), and mmp 3 petal ez (medium) load have all been down the bore of the savage. What combo's have you been shooting with good accuarcy?

The orange mmp's will probably be best for you, but dont rule out the others if you are not happy with the accuaracy.

they did not do bad, they peaked my intrest even more. sadly the cheapest way to keep it is to cast some. you know when you shot them. they where tight even down my knight.

I already have some mmps. I thinking about 340gr or a 450 gr. a local shop already has a 459 405gr Hollow base in stock which I would need to pick up a sizer (which what I am planning anyway)

chap, a little bit of every thing
I was shooting 3 loads on this one but I aimed about inch low on 2 shots bullseye on one and flyer on the other (my mistake). all 3 loads where hitting the same spot

I think I am going just size them to 457. I am going to be using a lee handpress. I think I just want to muscle them once. I would have do it in like 3 steps 457 to 454 to 452

They should cast wityh pure lead about 457. maybe a little larger with wheel weights. You shouldn't have to size them for use in the correct sabot.

I don't have much soft lead (about 7lbs of range scrape not counting what I have not smelted yet), got over 70lbs of wheel weight. saving the softer stuff for conicals.

I do have a whole pack of mmps

I'm going to be working on a 300 gr Nosler Partition load using .458 45/70 bullets for my Omega. I'm more concerned with minute of moose accuracy with sufficient power out to 200 yds. 6-8 inch groups at 200 would be good to go. Of course I'd prefer under 6". I'll start at 110 gr 2f T7 and see how they shoot. I may bump it to 120 gr if all goes well. I know 110 gr w/ 300 .451 Noslers shoot very well.
