Default ordered a barrel for the Hawken

I was having a hard time deciding whether to keep or sell the Hawken I picked up. Called Green Mountain today just to see what they had on sale and they had the 21" - 1:28 .50 for $95, and a 32" .54 smoothbore for $100
Decided the 21" .50 would make a nice handy barrel for hunting with conicals or sabots, so I ordered one.
With shipping & tax it's still under $115, and with the $75 I paid for the Hawken I'll have less than $200 invested.
Might turn out to be a handy rifle for use in thick cover.
Any suggestions on what kind of loads to feed the 21" - 1:28 GMB?

wabi; I got one of those bbls right after the first of the year. Stuck it on my white mtn carbine. Have only shot 250gr real bullets and 350gr maxi hunters over a felt wad and 80gr ffg goex. excellent results considering I cant see open sights worth a hoot, going to scope that gun. It should be a tack driver. Haven't tried sabots yet. Check with cayugad, he has one also. He is also President by acclaim, of the 21inchers club!!!

90 grains of Pyrodex or Goex 3f and a .430 300 grain XTP in a green Crushed Rib Sabot. I think you will be very happy with that barrel. I sure like mine. It also shoots 375 grain Buffalo Bullet SSB's pretty good and with some authority as well.

I second what Dave said. the XTP in the green sabot. I think I got mine from Hornaday. Bought them last year, so I don't know what they go for now.

However, I would try to see what conical the barrle likes. Give them all a try and have fun. I was having some good success with the Maxi Hunter and Ball. Powder charges from 80 to 100 grains will be good. But like I said go for the fun and run your own test!!!

I've had enough, it seems everyone has the 21" gm barrel except me. I'm at work right now and the gmb website is blocked as weapons. can someone post me the number so I can place my order?

Thanks.

Guess what I picked up at the Post Office today?

Some things of note; I had to file the tang down about 50 strokes of the mill file on each side to fit my deerstalker. I also had to cut off about an inch and a half off the ribwhere the ramrod goes and turn the spring steel around. Now I like those fibre optic sights but I see a scope in it's future just to see how well a flinter can do!!!

HuntAway.. I was kind of impressed with the balance of that little barrel on my Hawkins. I think with a nice short scope, and low power, that would be a deadly brush rifle. Even if it were a flintlock. Wait until you shoot it. It will make you smile.

I'm itching to shoot it but we have another major storm coming. It has started to snow again after supper tonight and we're expecting another foot of the white stuff. We just dug out from a foot yesterday.[]
We're getting pretty close to our record forsnowfall . The record is around 13' and we've had 11 so far.....

How boring would it be to be hot and sunny all the time????[&:]
