Default anybody shoot the tmz?

just wondering how they shoot and perform on deer. either size 250 or 290.
i was told that the 250 is really the chopped off290sbt with a poly tip covering a bigger hole.
i like the mz's but they seem limited on the range. they slow down so much with that big hole. maybe 125yds and in before they really hit the air breaks.

Exceptional penetration, always exits with good blood. Near 100% weight retention, never heard of a problem with any of them fragmenting. Not really a bang flop bullet like a sst or powerbelt, but a very solid performer you never have to worry about coming apart on you. I'd go with the 290g, they will fly straighter.

I shot a couple packs of the 250 with 120 grains of Pyrodex out of my Knight Disc. They did real well. I did not get a chance to test them on deer, as they were most uncooperative this year.

Hoss- I can't share your SST Bang flop. I have killed 4 deer with the 250 SST 110gr 777 2fg. One was a bang flop ,two I had to chase over 100/150 yds and one could not get up but required a 2nd shot to kill. The B/F was a 40 yd neck shot. One track job was through the lungs and clipped the liver before exit. The one this year I shot 1/4 to me at 130 yds. Bullet entered low where the shoulder and neck meet, went through both lungs and smashed 5 ribs on the off side. I found the bullet under the skin. She went 150 yds or so and piled up. I have a couple of very gruesom pics, but I don't know how to post. I can email them to you if you wish to see them. The one that took 2 shots was hit in the neck at 135 yds. Cut both arteries but missed the windpipe. She went down and bled out in seconds, just would not die. I know many people have killed many deer with them, but for B/flop I like the Noslers. I really have no bitch-4 shots 4 dead or down deer.

The 290TMX has shot very good for me, just started trying them. Shot under 2" groups and lots of time under 1". Optima pro 110ff T7= 1920fps - Omega 135gr ff t7 = 2000 fps. I think this will be my hunting load for next fall.

Chasman, thats what I was trying to get at. They(barnes) will come out everytime with a 3/4-1" exit. The sst/powerbelt dumps everything into the deer, gross exits if you are lucky enough to get one, and sometimes entrances. The problem is sometimes its just a surface wound instead of going all he way through. Its not built well enough to take anything other than a perfect bow type shot. And you have to keep them pretty slow to do that.

I have shot them in my Savage, but they were not as accurate as a ShockWave or a Parker Ballistic Extreme. I wanted theTMZ to be my bullet, but it didn't cooperatein the accuracy department. You can't switch sabots with the TMZ like you can the other bullets with a Flat Base, the TMZ is boat tailed and doesn't do well with other sabots. Some folks on the Savage forum shoot a #11 washerbetween the bullet and sabot, so thebullet sits on a firm base togrip the rifleing. Chap Gleason
