My best group ever! I shot a 3/8" (4 shots)group at 102 yds with my savage this morning! I have never shot a group that small with any rifle in my life. First three shots made kind of a clover leaf, kind of a hole. I decided it was a fluke so shot another one to see how bad it would open up, and it didn't! Ended up with 3 shots onevertical hole, and one shot a hair to the right. Might have a new favoriteload.
Load was 62.5g of reloader 7, black crush rib, and 300g .457 modified remington hp(smokeeter's).
I would say I hate to brag, but I dont. I put alot of work into this thing!
wow.. that is some outstanding shooting. It says a lot for the rifle and load, but also for the shooter as well. Nice job.

Hoss, Nice shooting, that is a heck of a group. I have done that too with a ShockWave the third time I shot my Savage. I had never shot that well in my life before. I have 15 of he Smokeeater's 300g but have not shot them yet.It is something isn't it shooting the Savage, it makes good shooters great.

Yeah, I dont expect to ever do better. Hell most likely cant match it again. If I end averaging twice that I will be happy. I still have a few more bullets I would like to get to atleast 3/4". So I still have lots of work left to do with this rifle. I dont think I could ever sell her, to manymemories together(good and bad). When I started I couldn't get this thing to shoot under 5" for nothing. Turned out to be a scope base problem. I still cant get sst's to shoot under 1 1/2". Butfeel better about keeping going now.

Switch to SW, I don't know why but the SW are accurate as heck in my Savage. The SST is only "average". Compare this:
shot the same day, the same powder, same primer only difference was SST with supplied sabot and SW with supplied sabot. Oh, I know exactly what you mean if you were to shoot 2x what you shot today. I have never duplicated that 5 shot group, but I did it once and I know the gun is capable of it, if the shooter is. Actually for me anything under 2" is OK to me, I like 1.5, but I chose the PBE last year as my hunting bullet and it was "2nd best" in my accuracy tests. I like the flight of them and the expansion. I think the SST has some fragmenting problems with the 250g and I have also heard of shoot thru problems, like no expansion, wiht the SST. However they do kill. I have also heard that
there are tracking problems with the lack of good expansion. I can't affort long tracking, since I hunt on small plot with neighbors with horse on some sides, and they don't like hunter walking in their pasture. So quick boom flop kills are what I am looking for. I will probably shoot a Barnes Origonal 300g for elk, but go to either the FB or PBX for hunting in VA and NY, since I feel they will expand well and boom flop at 50 to 100 yards, which is what I kill most of my deer. Very seldom over 100, in fact I can't think of 1 with a MLer.
