Default Encore BP Scope- the same results as Omega?

Hi Gents I'm new here and happy to be here.
Here is my question; supposedly you can sight in an Omega 50 cal and using the BDP?
Nikon scope 150 gr powder and a 250 gr sabot as long as you sight in at 100 yds you are good to go. If this is true can I use my 28" BP barrel on my Encore and get the same results. I hear the ads but my thinker thinks that nothing is that easy! Anyone out there
been there , done that?
Thank you,

Probably close, but here is the problem. WILL IT SHOOT IN YOUR GUN? My old muzzleloaders wouldn' t group anything over 120g pyrodex. Always check on paper. And wind is going to be a much bigger problem than elevation on a long shot.

hossdaniels, nailed it, I have a number of TC inlines all will shoot minute of angle with the load they like but the only bullet that will shoot with 150 gr as they state is the 200gr SW and that in only one of the 5 TC guns. As far as I can see that BDC scope has fish hooks all over it and that faint noise is them calling "here sucker in sub sonics"

Any decent BDC reticle scope will work with any accurate load on any gun. The question is, will the accurate load match the different aiming points at the same distances the scope manufacturer claims they are setup for. The answer to that is no for almost all loads including the load they recommend. The reason is every gun shoots differently even if shooting the same load.

So what can one do?

First find aconsistant accurate load. If possible, chorograph the load and get a ballisticcalculator program to use for refrence. Sight in at 100 yards using the primary crosshair. Now with the target at 100 yards, shoot a group using each of the aiming points on the reticle and note how high above the target center(POA) each group is.Now use the ballistic calculator and adjust the zerodistanceuntil the 100 yard point matches the real results for each aiming point. This will give you a close estimate of the distances that match up to the reticle aiming points. At this point you should go out and verify those ranges by actually shooting at the range at those distances for a final confirmation. If nothing else this gives you moreexcuses to go out and shoot more often.

^+1 good answer, I have a burris with ballistic plex, Similar design to the bdc. The first line is 200, second is 250, third is 290yds with my current load. You dont usually get round numbers, you just have to see where they really land. Here is a hint that may help, you can back up your zero to give you a easy number for the first line, say zero at 150-165 yds rather than 100. That will greatly increase your point and shoot range. And keep the ranges taped to the scope or stock, if you haven't already drilled it in at the range. Still practice will be the only teacher.

EDIT: you need a rangefinder to go with these recticles, eyeballing aint going to cut it unless you are ALOT better than me. If you dont have one you will be much better off with a regular duplex recticle.

I agree Hoss, that's what I do with my BDC scopes. Depending on the load I'm using I adjust where it hits at 100 yards so the other aiming points are closer to a round number. I just keep the 100 yard point at 3" or less high so I don't overshoot something close. With one of my guns and a 460gr conical I put it 2" high at 100 and I'm on around 115, first mark down at 150 and second mark down at about 200. With a 200gr SW it's on at 100, first mark down is 200 next is 275, next is 325. With my scope on 9x the marks are 4.5" apart at 100 yards.

WellI have gone to using PBR [Point Blank Range]and the 200gr SW or the 200gr 40 cal XTP with the POI at 3 inches high @100yds it is 4 inches low at 200yds considering that by aiming at the bottom of a normal size tin can at a 100 and at the top of it at 200 I can hit it and the occasion to shoot any farther than that is awful rare around here And that the Omega actually shoots a little flatter than that by about one inch [its the one that will shoot 150 gr] where am I going to use the BDC ? Now if you could adj. it like the one on one of my crossbows or the one on the 270 WSM it might be usful as it is I am not to happy with it. Lee

Lee,
I am a fan of the max PBR sight in also. I've only had the BDC scopes for a year or so and I'm still getting use to them. I find they are more usefull for slower, i.e. conical, bullets that have a rather limited PBR. For the faster loads the max PBR works just fine out to around 200 yards. I don't even bother with BDC's on my CF rifles since my 7mm handload for deer has a 6" PBR of over 300 yards and an 8" PBR of about 400 yards.

dmurphy317, thats why I still have one when I go out west there are some states which will allow a scope but you have to shoot conicals and they have a horrible trajectory. My trifocals wont work on open irons any more so I have to avoid some states.Lee
