Hang in there Gander. Don't go toward the light!!!!

Be thankful they don't offer them in .54 or .58 caliber. I could fall in love with a .58 flinter with a 1 in 70" twist.

Just keep thinking "I don't want no wimpy 50 cal, it has to be 54 or bigger".

I agree, a 58 flint would be awesome.

In all honesty, before I would spend that kind of money on one of them.. I'd kick a couple hundred more in the pot and go with a custom rifle made to do just what I want. That rifle has a 1-48 twist. Nothing wrong with that mind you, but I want roundball barrels in my traditional or sabot barrels. I own plenty of the 1-48 twist rifles and they are good rifles. Nothing special mind you, just good rifles.

There are too many custom rifle makers out there that are close to that ball field in price. Besides, it is a .50 caliber. If you want a .50 caliber, all fine and good. My tradtional flintlock .50 calibers are roundball shooters or sabot shooters. If they need to do something else, they are .54 caliber.

Did that help? Now order the thing and get it over with.

Send to the musem in ST Louis and get the plans for the Hawken rifle on display there [I picked mine up while I was there; buy a barrel blank and a really good piece of wood and build you own. I did that I think I built the one I still have in 1975, I think not sure I built a bunch and sold all but the one that had both tiger strip and birds eye [must have been a half breed tree] It takes a bit of time but when you build it your self you have a special feeling about it. Looks really nice, but another .50x 1:48? Think I'll resist any urge.
