Default Super Duper Handy Dandy Range Rod Case

Greetings all. Thought I would pass along an idea I came up with.

My most recent range rod came in a soft plastic sleeve, totally unsuitable for carrying the rod to the range.

So I went to Home Depot and got a length of1 inch PVC and some end caps. Cutting the pipe to the appropriate size it makes an excellent case for transport and storage. The end caps just twist off and on.

Here is a quick picture I took of it:

Hope this is of some use to those who have passed on so much to me.

Not a bad idea, but wouldn't work for my home made range rod.

Normally I just slide it down the barrel of my rifle when I walk out into the yard...

That is a very good idea Robert. If a person went with bigger PVC pipe he could fit a couple of range rods in there. I like to take at least two range rods and sometimes three. One is for loading, one is for swabbing. And one is for a different rifle. Then drilling some holes in the PVCand a length of leather and he could sling it like a quiver of arrows on his back to free up his hands as he walks to the range station.

Cayugad:

Yea, I was thinking of that as well. However my "swabbing rod" unscrews to a pretty compact size. And since I wanted to keep the diameter of the pipe fairly small...

But you are right, a larger pipe could easily accomodate as many rods as needed.

I was thinking of "the quiver" solution as well. I like your idea of holes going through both sides of the pipe. At first I was thinking of using bolts, but those could damage the rods. Holes through both sides of the pipe and then using leather, would eliminate the need for bolts.

Hhhmm...will have to look in to a version 2 of this case.
